For when you can no longer justify playing Pokemon, and would rather spend tons of money on card games than on girls.

Based off of one game in 1998 with a borrowed deck which I lost. Fuck you Justin.

It's a great game and also a horrible way to spend an incredible amount of money. Would not recommend.

Never saw the mass appeal. There are better card games.

Points taken because this business model is very exploitative.

It's totally pay to play, but there are workarounds, and the expandability of the game, and customization options make it utterly glorious. You can make up your own house rules with friends, and that also makes it more enjoyable.

Balance is garbage, cash grab is high, but the early editions were awesome to play socially with other pepole my age.

I get the concept. I do. But if it's supposed to be a battle between wizards, etc, etc... where's the role playing? If I wanted to play cards, I'd play cards. If I want to role play, I'll play D&D. It would have gotten a 0 but the artwork on the cards is really good.

Was mostly wanting to use this as a video game rating site for myself but figured since magic has a user friendly platform I could rate it. I love this game it is so deep and challenging and now that I can play free online it is even better.

When I was a kid, and worked at Boy Scout camp in the summers, we played the shit out of casual Magic. Emperor games, 3 or 4 man free-for-alls... A whole lot of fun. The few tourneys I've been to were full of shit bag losers, but I have a group of solid friends that a few times a year will drop $100 or so on boosters and we'll do a draft tourney on a Saturday with lots of beer and nachos and shit, so that's fun. The various video game incarnations are all at least fun for a few hours.

Loved it as a teen, for some reason, but never really digged the whole "collect them all thing".

I haven't played this in years - or should I say I haven't played with cards that aren't years old - so I don't know what's recent, but this has been a lot of fun over the years. My biggest beefs are natural consequences of a collectible card game: namely, card escalation and the goal of sucking as much money from you as possible.

I get the appeal of living card games but Magic has to be one of the most expensive and unreliable versions of a generally expensive hobby. If you want in on the one with the most players and will probably never die, this is your game. If you want a co-op lcg, try Lord of the Rings or Arkham Horror. If you want a better (imo) competitive lcg, try Game of Thrones 2nd Edition or Legend of the 5 Rings. And with those you buy expansions with every new card instead of horrid random booster packs.
