A fun darker shooter with the added fun of bullet time.

Walk into a house, your family is dead; shoot everybody. Still great.

One of the coolest shooters ever made in terms of style, while also having some slick if perhaps overly poetic writing. The overall gameplay is as simple as can be, but the game offers a lot of variety to maintain your interest and is difficult enough to keep you on your toes. The plot has very little nuance to it, but it has so much style and character that it'll keep you hooked from beginning to end.

Excellent shooter with really well-implemented bullet time. The "FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS" dude scared the shit out of me as a 12 year old.

Max Payne's voice makes him a badass in spite of having the goofy face of Sam Lake

BULLET TIME! 'nuff said.

Tons of bullshit enemy spawns and that damn blood trail dream level (hot tip switch controls to config 2 and use the d-pad) but bullet time and the GRIT make it worthwhile. Great franchise.

The flashy slow-motion may be useful and much-imitated, but it does get rather silly. Maybe it's that you just wind up using the same overdramatic dive move every two minutes at every doorway and corner to counteract repetitive ambushes. It's the big setpeice moments (especially the nightmares) and the wryly overwrought and self-critical noir narrative that really makes this so memorable, though.

Awesome game, would still play it today

Another trash game that I used to like back in the day but when I got back into it. Controls and game play were bad on the PS2.

Good game , Max Payne 2 is better tho

A simple but cool story that makes us feel sympathy for Max. Game-changing gameplay for that era. And very cool level designs. It's not aged well, I agree but for the impact when he released (and the 5-10 years after it) it was one of the biggest for sure.

still fun to play, noir atmosphere of this game is almost still unmatched. one of the more refined games of the action genre.
