Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

BestBuy shipped me the limited edition in error so now I have a sword lamp. A very dusty sword lamp.

Extremely fun from start to finish. Most importantly, this game is a masterclass on making a villain who's completely immoral and yet can be related to -- for fighting for what he believes, as different as it may be from conventional morality.

This was good. Different than the Metal Gear original games. This one is a hack and slash and not stealth.

RULES OF NATURE

Its a cool game if you like samurai slashing some shit with a sword.

Maybe not a great Metal Gear but a great action game. Platinum is awesome.

Actually one of the goofiest games I've ever played, with some bizarrely psychic US politics thrown in. Seriously. At one point the main villain screams 'Make America Great Again'. The combat is smooth, once you get used to parrying and using the slow-time to your advantage. Satisfying but a little short. Oh, and the kid's voice acting/subtitle combination is 10/10 top notch.

This game is far nuttier compared to past MGS games, but it just goes absolutely ham making it glorious. The gameplay has its problems, such as how defense is over centralized on parrying and how sloppily implemented stealth and other gimmicks are. Enemy design is also lacking and has some annoying gimmicks, made worse by various small inconvenciences. I appreciate the game insofar it does some neat things with boss design and kinesthetics, but I can only call this decent instead of great.

The plot is batshit insane, which is perfectly in line with Metal Gear tradition only this time it's more self-aware and decides to have fun with its ridiculousness, as opposed to the usual cloying, patronising lectures about the evils of nukes and mind control etc. of past games. The gameplay tries to balance action and stealth, but while it excels with the former the latter comes off really half-assed especially for the series, in fact there's hardly any reason to use stealth most of the time.
