Rayman 2: The Great Escape

Rayman 2 sits in this spot of being a cool vibe but even if you're looking at it strictly on that it feels insubstantial. I think it does a lot with its swamp aesthetic but I do think a lot of levels end up bleeding into each other in a way that gets bland at times. Gameplay wise I think it leans too much into wonky gimmicks that are often poorly designed and the combat is painfully boring. Its narrative just doesn't land on anything either and the way it plays out just feels like nothing.

Just really boring, and when it's not boring, it's full of cheap hits. Most of the time you just walk straight down some lanes and jump a few times, and the jump takes forever, until there's a part where you can't see enemies before they hit you.

Fun. Awfully hard. Bad level design.

Extremely visually beautiful on the Nintendo 64, some of the best graphics on the system. But I found the play control just a bit weird and floaty and not as sharp as other N64 platformers.
