The first horror game I've played that I thought did horror well in a really long time. As is usual for Resident Evil, the horror sort of falls away the further you are into the game, but it's still a fun experience throughout. The early parts do a great job of blurring what is a scripted sequence and what isn't and keep the Baker family really surprising.

Drops the macho man pineapple muscle slabs of beef characters we have been getting and replaces it with gooey gross nonsense. Thanks to P.T. we got one of the best RE games in over a decade.

The story was okay and the dialogue was awful but this is the most fun I’ve had actually playing a game in a WHILE. A+ for game play and I experienced zero glitches the entire game which is rare.

Took a while to win me over. I guess people love the opening, but it kind of jumped the shark for me. Having your character's hand cut off right in the beginning and then reattaching it severely lowers the stakes for the rest of the game in my eyes. Once it lays off the Texas Chainsaw Massacre homage and lets you explore the house, it gets good. UPDATE: The opening didn't bother me nearly as much on a replay a couple of years later

For what feels more like a reboot than a true sequel, RE7 drastically shifted it’s identity again, however it doesn’t slowly and subtly tease it, it really goes for this unapologetically. This is what the franchise needed, revitalizing old school/slow pace horror of old, with solid shooting mechanics that blends well with the new 1st person perspective. If not for the typical generic enemies and a unexpected 3rd act, this could be arguably be the best this franchise has ever been.

The first Resident Evil game since Zero that's genuinely horrifying. Slightly derivative and short, but damn if the first two sections aren't some of the most brick shitting tense areas in gaming.

My favorite game of 2017. A huge surprise, and a very welcome to return to survival-horror form for Capcom. Can't wait for whatever is next.

of course, the whole "evil little girl" and the "new" perspective aren't really that revolutionary in any sense...but there's still that special RE charm of exploration, solving (way too simple) puzzles and a whole lot of backtracking (because yeah...inventory). But it's all working in favor of great locations and level design, where other games just have you rushing by, here you'll take it all in and then some. real "horror" is still basically non-existent ever since RE4, though.

More survival and more horror than this series has had in a long time. Superb atmosphere and a blast to play. Played a small section in VR at a friend's place too, and the immersion that provides is top-notch.

The controls can be a little floaty and the VR version has some serious graphical issues. That being said, this game is terrifying and a completely absorbing experience. The tension is real with this game and the series has been rejuvenated.

A brilliant first act which was almost ruined by an avarage at best second half with unnecessary expositions and nonsensical plot. Luckly it all compensates in the end and has some ties to the series lore. The free "Not a Hero" DLC is also pretty neat
