I have the arcade cabinet and let me tell you this ... I never play it. But it's neat.

Man I thought this was an amazing game to watch as a kid and a fun game to play for 20 seconds on the rare occasion I could get a quarter. I recently bought the switch Hyper Anniversary edition on Steam and who are all these people??

I am rating the arcade version of this. Excellent game. Going to give it this rating because I feel that they could have added more characters shooting projectiles like Ryu and Ken. First fighting arcade game I played vs my friend in high school. I used to beat him with Chun Li. Also first female character I took in a video game.

The ideas were there, but button mashing still ruled the day back then.

Few things have remolded their entire genre in their own image the way this game did. Capcom's later fighting games may be flashier and/or better balanced (though I suppose at least a few may be neither). This though, is what made them all possible, and it's still fun to ease right back into.

Slow, unabalanced, and lacking complexity, but still fun.

Sure, it shows its age, but any game that I played as much as this one and I would still play and have fun at is a good game. Guile was my bread and butter in this one.

There's definitely some iconic classic magic in this game. I played Chun-Li and kicked the shit outta errybody.

There's a lot of good to say about the original SFII but after playing the updates and going back to this you'll definitely see how it's lacking. SFII laid the groundwork for fighting games but it also lacks a lot of basic shit that we take for granted in fighters today - not being grabbed while in blockstun, actual damage dampening, having actual super meters, etc. Still the art style is cool and game's neutral is decently fun to play, but I certainly think fighters have evolved beyond it.
