Turok: Dinosaur Hunter

1997
Action
Shooter
Players begin the game in a central hub level, which contains portals to seven other stages. The player must find keys scattered across the stages. When enough keys have been inserted into the lock mechanisms of a hub portal, that level is unlocked. Players explore the large, typically jungle-based levels by jumping, swimming, climbing, crawling, and running. (wikipedia.org)

Careful out there, heard there's dinosaurs in that fog. Ghastly controls.

I remember it being a bit boring at the time too. I can only guess it has aged terribly.

I want to like this more because of the crazy enemy variety and awesome set of weapons you get, but this game hasn't aged well. The game pushes far too much platforming on you which is tedious, the level design can be confusing and obnoxious to play through, and the game's enemies aren't too hard to play around. You can literally circle strafe most if not all boss fights and win. The PC controls work just fine, but like Goldeneye, it feels awful when you try to play it on a N64 controller.

I......AM......TUROK. I liked reading about how the German version made all the people into robots and they looked fucking ridiculous in the jungle setting.

I enjoyed the first few levels of this game. And then I stopped playing forever.

I rate the 2015 remaster here! If you loved it back then you will still love it, play on the PC with M&K and everything is fine It's still worth every penny!

To a certain extent, all N64 have aged poorly, none quite so much as Turok. This is almost unplayable in 2019 and only gets a not-terrible score because this was decent for N64 at the time.
