Killer Instinct

Killer Instinct

1994
Fighting
Killer Instinct features several gameplay elements unique to fighting games of the time. Instead of fighting enemies in best-of-three rounds bouts, each player has two life bars. The player that depletes the other player's life bars first wins the match. The game also introduced "auto-doubles", a feature which allows players to press a certain sequence of buttons to make characters automatically perform combos on opponents.

I adored Rare back in the day, but man this game did not really stand out to me. I probably shouldn't even be rating a game I played for less than an hour twenty years ago. Oh well.

The game mechanics are rather one note. Dial-a-combo isn't that fun, at least not compared to a game that does it better like Tekken. I also really don't like the characters. Also, the Super NES version made me want to break the controller so much.

Not the worst game ever but not worth playing. So many fighter games were doing it better.

This was one of the few fighting games that I actually really enjoyed.

Not too complicated, and therefore perhaps more enjoyable than the standard fighting game to a casual like me.

There were worse fighting games made at the time but this isn't nearly refined enough, especially considering how much better Street Fighter 2 was, despite the fact that it was already 2 years old by the time this was released.

Not a good fighting game at all. As the characters moved slow and I didn't find any appeal to any of them.
