Kirby's Adventure

1993
Action, Platformer
Not everything is well in Dream Land. For some mysterious reason, the Dream Spring, a magical well that is the reservoir for all the dreams of the citizens of Dream Land, is no longer working. Everyone is being subjected to their worst nightmares every time they go to sleep. Upon reaching the Dream Spring, Kirby finds out that evil King Dedede has stolen the Star Rod, thus depriving Dream Land of the magical energy that feeds its spring. Using 20 unique tricks and your ability to steal your enemies' powers by swallowing them, you'll have to make your way through a horrific land filled with all kinds of nightmares. Recover the broken pieces of the Star Rod, and everyone in Dream Land will sleep peacefully once again. If you fail, the citizens of Dream Land will be subjected to a lifetime of terrible nightmares.

an absolutely majestic achievement. looks better than a number of SNES games and most GBA games. Sakurai also accomplished something brilliant, realizing that video games could still be made to appeal to people who suck at video games, without sacrificing a more sophisticated audience. of course, he forgot that lesson when he made Brawl

Probably worthy of sharing the title with Mario Bros. 3 as the best NES game (with the rest of my top five probably rounding out with Mega Man 2, Duck Tales and Little Nemo: The Dream Master). Beautiful graphics on par with some SNES games, rich and varied level design, tons of secrets, exciting boss battles and charming clever minigames. An example of a sequel truly expanding and better its predecessor in every way imaginable, and maybe still my favorite Kirby game.

I'm still surprised the NES didn't explode when you put this game in. It's on par with a shitty SNES game it looks that amazing.

This game is odd to me in that a lot of its levels feel like they blue ball me. I keep expecting something more from them but then the levels just all of a sudden ends and I just end up feeling empty from the experience. From a mechanical standpoint, the game is polished but boring where your run speed has virtually no effect on your jumping but you're also mobile enough where none of the enemies are particularly a threat. It has some cute gimmicks, but it feels too barebones for me to care.

As a kid I loved this, and it's the only core Kirby game I've ever played. I'm not sure why, it just didn't come with me. But back then being able to suck up enemies and take their powers was really cool. Hell, it's still pretty cool. And since it was Kirby it wasn't too hard for my stupid kid brain/skills.

So boring, I can't understand why this game is popular apart maybe from nostalgia.

I'm not one for Kirby, but this is the best I've played in the series so far.
