Mario Party 2

1999
Party
There are 65 mini-games in Mario Party 2. They are divided into four-player, one vs. three, two vs. two, and battle games. There are also six item and duel mini-games as well as a special one that can be unlocked. The type of mini game is determined by the color of the spaces players land on. A character comes across several opportunities to either buy, win, or steal items. Such items include mushrooms, skeleton keys, treasure chests, and others. (wikipedia.org)

Holds up surprisingly decently. As much as "friendship ruining" is kind of a dumb internet joke about this series, I have a pretty clear memory of my friends (maybe in middle school?) getting in a fight over this game.

I'm not a fan of the Mario Party formula in general but even I have to admit that this is a solid game. It uses the N64 controller in creative ways and is replayable well beyond once you've seen all the boards. A decent step up from the original.

Excellent game as they added a ton new mini games on here.

My friends and I would just load up that mini game where you're on multicolored mushrooms and Toad raises a colored flag and that's the one that's safe from sinking, so you all have to rush to it.

One of my favorite Mario Party's.

Compared to the first game, Mario Party 2 balances its mini-games exceptionally well aside from a few exceptions with many of them being fun to play without the board game element. The item mini-games can be overly braindead for the reward you get out of them and some of the gimmicks are annoying like in Mystery Land, but this game is a big improvement over the original.

Amusing at the occasional sleepover but inevitably this one would go off and the GoldenEye/Perfect Dark/Mario Kart/Smash Bros/Mario Tennis on after a short while.

I don't ever remember this game being as contentious as its reputation, but rather a fun light crowd pleaser.

Oh thank god my palms are saved no more rotate the joystick games. Every Mario Party review needs an anecdote of a friendship being tested.
