Pure trash for the reason of backtracking.

a clunky, awkward game that I couldn't even bother to finish. part of me wonders if this game has ECHOES (get it) of Majora's Mask, and a subsequent reappraisal might yield a more positive outlook. but a far larger part of me thinks that Retro Studios somehow made a masterpiece on their first try, and had nowhere to go but down. the fortunate thing is that the foundation they built with Prime was so strong they couldn't possibly bottom out, but they fell too far to ever reach the top again.

One of the sharper drops in sequel quality in gaming that I'm aware of, with Metroid Prime being in contention for my top ten games of all time and its sequel being... ok at best. The engine and graphics are great, sure, but the switching between light and dark worlds and limited ammo - massively frustrating. I've finished Metroid Prime well over a dozen times, this game not once.

I can't quite call it a bad game, but boy was it disappointing. Prime is one of my favorite all-timers, so I couldn't wait for more. Prime 2 is a lot more of the same, but somehow doesn't get it right, in any respect.

PrimeHack w/ HD interface textures. The initial light & dark idea was tough pill to swallow. Settled w/ cosmic horror x metroid. The door issue is reduced. Environment color palette & ammo drop system sucks. Inclusion of dark world adds another layer of confusion to the map (& more loading screens). I hate enemies w/ invincibility mechanic & sudden backtracking imposed on you without you knowing (it happens a lot and is a major time wasting). Stopped after spider guardian.

This is a game of extremes where it has both a lot of highs and a lot of lows. But as a sequel to the first game, I'd at least say the exploration is a lot better just on virtue of letting you boost ball more often and the boss fights having actual teeth to them. I think it still suffers from having the first game's boring combat and is exasperated by annoying gimmicks like light zones, but the backlash this game gets is baffling to me especially when compared to its awful sequel.

A great game that I enjoyed even more than Prime 1. The gameplay feels fluid and the areas are fun to explore and puzzle around in. The health drain in the Dark World and the ammo management really didn't bother me - they brought some variety to the gameplay. The story is paper thin and the cutscenes don't amount to much, but the gameplay is excellent, and that's much more important to me. Apart from some lack of clarity about the iframes on certain enemies, I have no major complaints.
