Before Risk came along, this was the game most likely to destroy your friendships.

a perfect metaphor for society. the Parker Brothers crafted a system by which they could demonstrate that capitalism is needlessly cruel and horribly broken, and people still use it 80 years later because they can't think of anything better to do

Monopoly: Ruining families since 1935. The game most likely to get you to call your mom a dumb bitch!

Ok, maybe my score is unfair. Monopoly isn't the worst game ever, but its actually bad. The pacing is tenuously slow for how simple turns should be. Unlike other slow games based on your "decisions", Monopoly can be solved. Chess can't. And since Monopoly can be solved, with some moderately intelligent people it's just an exercise in who gets more lucky with the dice. Even on turn 1, most of the Chance and Community Chest cards are valueless. It shows its age in all the wrong ways. Let it die

Tedious at times. A certain level of strategy and a great deal of luck. Nobody remembers that this game was written to be social commentary about how bad monopolies were, so if you're not having fun that's supposed to be the point. Nevertheless, it is still the baseline of what board games try to be.
