Some of the new stuff works, some of it doesn't, but that in no way detracts from the incredible overall experience. I'm giving both versions of this game a perfect score, though I'll risk the wrath of the fandom and say that I slightly prefer Vanilla with its tighter, more focused story (relatively speaking) and less needlessly ambiguous ending.

Incredibly stylish with great graphical and audio design. Themes and plot are interesting, even if some of the cast and the overall setting aren't the most appealing to me personally. It does suffer from some pacing issues, however, and while an enjoyable 144 hour playthrough is a solid investment, it could've been condensed without losing anything.

As the only game up to this point that has taken me 180+ hours to complete in my first run, and whose 180+ hours I enjoyed almost every second of, one would think that this would have been a perfect score. But, it is too long, the way this game was re-sold to previous players at full price feels scammy, and a few seconds of the ending annoyed me a lot. This is one of the GOATS, but if there's one thing I've learned it's that won't want to buy a first version of any future Persona game ever.

Persona 5 Royal takes what is already one of the greatest RPGs ever made and improves upon it in every way. the world is richer, the writing deeper, the combat more engaging and nuanced, the music, somehow, even better. I am sympathetic to those who feel it's a ripoff, and that it should been DLC for the original game. I am less sympathetic to those who feel it makes this anything other than one of the best games ever made, and the paragon of JRPG design aesthetics. it's overwhelmingly gorgeous.

Unbelievably annoying writing/localisation.

Dungeons exploration feels like tedious filler. The combat is good. The UI style can get overbearing. Looks flashy &cool but kills the utility clarity. Dialogue can get excessive &overdone. I like micromanaging the star stats but becomes pointless once maxed out. Ann&Ryuji are too 1-d. Confidant stories are more interesting than the main story. Main story are episodic villain filler w/ unsatisfying execution...including a sudden exposition dumping. Okumura boss is bad design. Stopped after shido

This is terrible. It's drawn like a comic book which is the only thing cool. A lot of reading not moving around for a long time until you have to go like inside a mansion to defeat bosses. You get many characters in this. Only can choose 4. This game is like 100 hours. It's very repetitive. One of the worst R.P.G's I have ever played.

Absolutely fantastic installment in the Persona series, A must have for any JRPG fan! But the story is kinda weak, compared to P4R, the same applies to the main group of characters, definitely not as well defined and worth remembering as in the predecessor, but the gameplay is here clearly superior and its stylish as f*ck. Unfortunately, the last ~40 hours feel like pure time sink, the story stays cool and interesting but everything else is stretched as far as it goes to squeeze out "play time".

New character portraits are wayy better and endeared me to some characters more. The new difficulty though is just the worst. I played on hard and it was the most boringly easy game I've ever played, like pokemon level except this isn't for children. They clearly want that casual money but they may have gone overboard. Made me realize how much the og game is carried by the tension of being able to lose sometimes. I remember the high point of og was fighting harder boss and had to prep and strat
