Hated the original game because of the tank controls, dull grafix, and unfit environments/enemies. So far in this remake, I'm having a blast. Great grafix. Combat is great, slow but satisfying gameplay with smooth animations. Ashley dialogues: okay, LEON, *screams*, *pant* *pant*. Catapult section sucks. Later stages, feels a bit too reliance on action to progress. Gotta applaud for one area which was really intense and scary (the essence of resident evil). Final boss is disappointing.

That a decent but wildly unnecessary remake has a higher metacritic score than a genre-defining banger like Street Fighter 6 is some real faith-in-humanity-lost sheet.

The methodical (slow) combat annoyed me at first, but I learned to appreciate what it was trying to do. I like RE4 a lot because I can't handle most horror games, but the focus on action (and not hiding) appealed to me. I pulled myself through the scarier parts. Game's a little silly and the voice work isn't always solid, but I guess that's part of the charm. I tried playing the original and couldn't handle the controls... modernity has served this game well.

Holy shit, they did it. The maniacs really did it. They managed to make the best horror game ever made even better. This is so much more than just a fresh coat of paint, and all of the changes and updates are very much welcomed. I was skeptical of a remake of RE4 being able to make significant enough updates to justify its existence, but this is remarkable. Incredible stuff.

The beginning felt like VILLage, the middle like Army of Darkness and the closing like Metal Gear Solid 1. Coming from having just played Mass Effect 2, the combat here feels more constrained. Overall the game feels like a mish-mash of tropes without a unique vision. The notes littered throughout the game were more interesting than this save-the-president's-daughter story. The moustache-twirling villain is a downgrade from RE2's more human antagonists.

Too many complex annoying puzzles in this that I had to look up every time. That really hurt the gameplay in this. I would say this is better than the original. Ashley is a lot better in this game, you can protect her easily. The story in this game is a lot better. It's only good for 1 playthrough I feel.

like the resi 2 remake, it achieves what it set out to: put some new threads on a cult classic without losing sight of what made it a classic to begin with. there are nitpicks, especially when it comes to voiceover and gameplay, but they don't even come close to detracting from an otherwise vastly improved presentation. i'm not a big enough expert on the things that were left out, all i can say is: i didn't "miss" anything. no disappointment with the RE-makes for me so far (yes, i liked 3, too).

Hits all the right nostalgia notes while still successfully modernising the game. Has some parts that frustrated me, but it's a high-quality offering.
