Super Mario Bros. Wonder

One of the best games I’ve ever played. Really fun gameplay, with creative art & outstanding level design. The talking flower who is voiced by Mick Wingert, is fantastic comic relief. It’s refreshing to play a game with no in-game purchases & no massive updates required.

As a game, a fun romp that I finished surprisingly quickly (in terms to the main storyline). As part of a franchise, a breath of fresh air that offers a new life and future to Mario, right down to the voice acting by a true successor in Kevin Afghani

As polished and slickly made as you'd expect of the franchise, but entirely lacking a sense of wonder. The Wonder Seed sections that play with and subvert the format are a great addition, but the game lacks a real narrative thread tying it together and more feels like a procession of concept tests, akin to playing random levels on Mario Maker. Having Americans speak while playing detracts even further.

My favorite 2D platformer of all time and one that made a massive impact on me. After playing the Wii U Mario game, I'd mostly given up on the 2D Mario games as generic platformers. But this one has such a sense of joy and whimsy that's hard to express in words. Something wacky is always going to happen in each level that's going to fundamentally change how you see it. This game is the epitome of childhood joy and imagination.

Worst 2D Mario I ever played. To complex, annoying flower guy who talks in every level, Bowser Junior is the only mini boss in this & then Bowser. You're forced to get a amount of seeds to fight Bowser Junior, you get these Royal seeds, once you get 6 of them you can do the Bowser World then face Bowser. It's terrible. You have to concentrate on your timing to jump on Q for the musical notes. Beat this game & happy that I don't have to play this ever again.

Keep the flowers forever, keep flavour alive.

Nintendo out here still proving that they're the best developer in the world. I'm a 2D Mario guy so this is right up my alley. The Wonder gimmick is insane in the best way. So inventive and even funny sometimes. They really leaned in. And everything is simple to understand. Incredibly polished. Badges add a little depth to it, but it would be amazing even without them. Beautiful graphics. A banger soundtrack (there's a specific Wonder song I love). Doesn't overstay its welcome. Fantastic.
