The Game of Life

1960
Family
This game attempts to mirror life events many people go through from going to college, raising a family, buying a home, working and retiring. The intent of the game is to have the most assets at the end of the game, assets are earned primarily by working and earning tokens with dollars amount on them. There is a very linear board that you move along by spinning a wheel or landing on spaces that tell you to move to a specific space or forward or back. (boardgamegeek.com)

Indoctrinate your kids early into the American Dream (accumulate a lot of stuff and retire rich and comfortable).

Much like real life, it's a bit too easy for your wife to fall out of the car.

...could be worse. You're parents could want to play monopoly on family game night.

It's extremely random, but in a way that makes it feel like it's your fault if you do badly - which, to be fair, does make it an accurate simulation of our society.

Old-fashioned and sure seeks to drain your soul little by little. Okay, but dated.

It's a weirdly acute metaphor for real life but as a game it's pretty boring and uninteresting. It's funny to make up stupid stories to go along with the events that happen in the game, but there's literally no strategy and minimal player input as your success is entirely dependant on RNG.

Used to play this version as a kid. For a kids game there are so many confusing rules in this to follow. I liked spinning the wheel is what made me like this game. Sometimes I would just spin the wheel without playing the game. For a board game it's ok nothing spectacular.
