the constant item-switching makes this borderline unplayable today. a great achievement for the time, but the reverence I have for past-their-prime, iconic classics starts and ends with Nina Hartley

Deeply subversive in nightmarish ways.

The followup on Link to Past manages to conjure plenty of atmosphere from the pea-soup fog of the original Game Boy (though the various updates and remakes do so even better), while throwing a sizeable dose of the ever-more-puzzly exploration the series would keep revisiting your way.

(2nd playthrough) Still good, but there's a lot more backtracking and confusion than I remember the first time.

An interestingly dreamy, trippy off-brand Zelda adventure with a deeper focus on puzzles than probably any other game in the series. Gave me a headache staring at it on my little black-and-green Game Boy screen on many a car ride with my parents.

Link's Awakening is a massive adventure and non-stop fun to play. There is a distinct sense of humor to the dialogue and cameos throughout. Though it can be a tad too difficult at times, this Zelda game is one of the best in the handheld side of the franchise.
