Step into the shadows of the deadliest dwelling on earth. You've arrived at Castlevania, and you're here on business: To destroy forever the Curse of the Evil Count. Unfortunately, everybody's home this evening. Bats, ghosts, every kind of creature you can imagine. You'll find 'em all over the place, if they don't find you first. Because you've got to get through six monstrous floors before you even meet up with the Master of the House. Your Magic Whip will help, and you'll probably find a weapons or two along the way. But once you make it to the tower, you can count on a Duel to the Death. The Count has waited 100 years for a rematch.

It's amazing how great some of these early NES games were! Seemingly just another one of the millions of platformers, Castlevania instead sets the scene for a whole new genre (though not exactly with this outing). The gameplay is perfectly responsive and both insanely hard as well as fair (ok, not the second playthrough). The music is also outstanding - maybe the best series on the whole system. Konami hits it out of the park with this one.

classic stages doable first 4. But after that all bullshit levels after. Slow laggy heavy as brick af MC vs tons of fast enemies. Don't even mention the grim reaper boss, I can barely beat em with save state...

Platformers and deliberately plodding characters don't always mix well, but this game famously pulls it off quite well. The hint of strategic thinking around planning sub-weapon use helps, as does the abundance of checkpoints. But it's really the presentation that leaves a lasting impression, especially the soundtrack.

A classic side-scroller whose steep difficultly curve and clunky controls are a legendary combination. My only complaint is that some of the bosses are very uninteresting.

A Fun classic if there ever was one. a difficult but fair adventure that requires the player to learn from their mistakes and use strategy to overcome the odds. doesnt over stay its welcome and delivers a great memorable experience
