Castlevania is an action-platformer video game developed and published by Konami for the Family Computer Disk System video game console in Japan in September 1986. It was ported to cartridge format and released in North America for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in May 1987 followed by a European release in 1988. The game was developed in tandem with the MSX2 game Vampire Killer, which used a similar premise but different game mechanics. (wikipedia.org)

classic stages doable first 4. But after that all bullshit levels after. Slow laggy heavy as brick af MC vs tons of fast enemies. Don't even mention the grim reaper boss, I can barely beat em with save state...

The art is glorious; the game play is monotonous.

Don't flip your console over at the nonsense ahead, you're gonna miss some meaty music.

Good game but it gets really hard. So I can't give it a higher rating.

Platformers and deliberately plodding characters don't always mix well, but this game famously pulls it off quite well. The hint of strategic thinking around planning sub-weapon use helps, as does the abundance of checkpoints. But it's really the presentation that leaves a lasting impression, especially the soundtrack.

A classic side-scroller whose steep difficultly curve and clunky controls are a legendary combination. My only complaint is that some of the bosses are very uninteresting.

A Fun classic if there ever was one. a difficult but fair adventure that requires the player to learn from their mistakes and use strategy to overcome the odds. doesnt over stay its welcome and delivers a great memorable experience

Hard as hell, but such fun. The soundtrack is a good selling point for me

More difficult than it had any right to be. The constant whipping sounds coming from my room did, at least once, prompt my mom to barge in and double-check the television.

Iconic but wildly difficult, I'm pretty sure I've never actually beaten it without cheesing it with save states. The music is so damn good though right out of the gate with this series.

Castlevania is a good example of a game that's elevated by limiting your mobility. Considering the stiffness of the game's jumping, it becomes less about pushing mobility and more about engaging with the game's enemy design. In CV1's case, I think the enemy placement and mixing elevates by constantly keeping you on your toes even if the actual use of verticality isn't horribly interesting. The boss fights are cool in spades, but a lot of them are too easy to just burst down.
