Final Fantasy X

2001
Role-Playing
Final Fantasy X is the tenth main installment in the FF series and the first title released on sixth-generation consoles. It was also the first game to feature fully three-dimensional areas rather than including pre-rendered backdrops, and the first to include voice acting. Final Fantasy X tells the story of a star blitzball player, Tidus, who journeys with a young and beautiful summoner named Yuna on her quest to save the world of Spira from an endless cycle of destruction wrought by the colossal menace Sin.

One of the most surprisingly well balanced games of its era that remains as easily accessible to genre veterans and RPG novices alike. Almost every aspect of the game feels extremely polished with only a few exceptions, none of which affect game completion. The world is immersive and the soundtrack is a masterpiece - with some of the best character development and storytelling in any Final Fantasy title. Well worth a play through, even 20 years after its release.

Simple easy to follow plot works fine. The setting is a lot of vibes and very good art direction. FF was better when it was turn based and this was about the best its combat got. Sphere grid gives the potential for a lot of versatility.

This was my first FF game and I regret starting with it because they're all pale in comparison. Loved the graphics and maps (if you love colorful PS2 graphics this is it). Enjoyed the classic turn based combat and the level up sphere grid system. The story is a 100/10 for me; plot twist after plot twist that took what seemed like a normal pilgrimage story into something completely otherworldly. Amazing game and one of the best FF.

Too many fuckin’ cutscenes; I want to play a video game, not watch a movie.

It took me a lot of years to admit to myself that this is one of my favourite FFs. It doesn't topple some of the older ones as a whole but the sphere grid is one of my fave level progression systems ever and the turn-based combat here is fantastic; it was so quick and different at the time. I used to say the characters sucked but a lot of them were really cool, and even though it had a Star Wars twist, the story was emotional. Also, "To Zanarkand", what a song.

It's a little more linear than previous entries in the franchise. Final Fantasy X is a benchmark in JRPG gaming. With breathtaking visuals and a stellar voice cast. Not to mention the battle system keeps things complex and surprisingly fast paced.

One of my favorite Final Fantasy games. I really enjoyed the sphere grid and the feeling that your characters could level up after every battle. The battle system was also great, being able to jump inactive party members into a fight to fit the situation. Loved that. I also loved the characters, even Tidus (that fucking wanker). The big reveal about halfway through of what happens to summoners still brings a tear to my eye.

Too linear and full of unskippable cutscenes, but otherwise great.

FFX's plot is laughably retarded and I can't think of a more lamer video game protagonist than Tidus. I also really hate that gaudy aesthetic on everything. That aside, I think the game has a decent enough battle system but 90% of the random encounters are lock-and-key. While switching between party members is a cool mechanic, generally you'll find yourself switching party members in to do the same shit because of how rigid encounter design is. Some cool bosses aside, this game was pretty lame.
