Stunning, visually speaking and some of the best atmosphere out of any horror game. Mr. X is fucking great and even though the game drifts into actiony shlock towards the end, the vast majority of the game is tense and effectively creepy. The voice acting is better, but still cheesy and the script is campy as hell, it takes more than a couple of rewrites to fix all of the flaws in the original game's writing. I prefer Leon's wooden tough guy voice from RE4

Resident Evil 2 comes close to matching (Gamecube) Resident Evil in terms of a remake surpassing the original. The atmosphere is as tense as they come and the sound design shines on my Atmos surround system. The reworking on Mr. X, the plot, several major characters, and the map layout are all inspired choices. I wish it didn't keep the cheesy elements from the original but the game needs a humor break once in a while because it almost never lets up on the pedal.

No waiting between two rooms make the remake worth it. And the Trench Coat Super Zombie is much more fun in this one, with his loud step you fear and try to throw off.

I had to tap out on the remake of 1 because I just couldn’t do it with the tank controls, but this was much more like it. Actually enjoyed running from zombies and Mr X and turning the red map rooms of the police station blue one by one, and thank god there’s hip pouches that let you expand your inventory to actually useful levels. Only issue why did I pick up tons of blue poison heal plants through the whole game when I only actually got poisoned and had to use one… *drumroll* …once.

This game is ok. To many things that make it not good. Over the Shoulder camera angles are terrible, Knife breaks and Mr. X chases you for the most part in this game. The only thing I liked in this game was the map system that tells you that you got everything in a room and what items are in there. Also there are missions with Ada & Sherry. That gets a 0 as playing with them was not fun at all. Puzzles that are too difficult. Mr. X a real annoyance in this game.

Docking a couple of points for making a remake that's completely inaccessible to certain players of the original. The faster pace and precision controls really hurt it.

Great graphically, with solid script alterations and decent voice acting. That said, there's parts I found genuinely frustrating that sapped the enjoyment out of it somewhat. The fact the missus loves watching it probably bumps it up a tier.

I hate to admit it, but this was my first Resident Evil game, or at least the first one I've ever finished. I'm the biggest wuss in the world and have always avoided horror games like the plague and merely resorted to YouTube let's plays for my fix, but I had to pick this one up. The graphics and controls in RE2 remake are mesmerizing, and though story and level design show their age, it's refined and modernised enough to lure in new players incapable of stomaching the tank controls of yore.

To be honest, this deserves probably at least a 90 because it nails the atmosphere, survival horror elements, the sound design, the visuals. It's awesome for what it is. It doesn't get a 90 because while I acknowledge that it's a great game (and I certainly enjoyed what time I spent with it), it's too spooky for me. Also, survival horror isn't really my jam. I prefer games like F.E.A.R. that are scary but resources aren't limited.
