Lasted less than an hour playing this in 2020 in prep for Witcher 3, just read a summary and skip it.

I played this after 2 and 3, maybe had I played it in 2007 I'd feel differently, but really this is just a humble beginning of a trilogy that would become legendary. The combat here sucks, the story is fine, it's an okay RPG as a whole but it doesn't stack up to future iterations. Which is fine, just know this if you're like me and you go back to play the OG.

While I like the lore, and some of the character development, and I think the design of the world is mostly pretty good, I think there's a lot here that is just particularly frustrating, and I don't think it's because of the time that's passed since its release either. The game requires far too much combat, and the combat isn't fun. While I'm glad I played through this to experience the story, it was frustrating even with an infinite health cheat turned on. Won't play it again.

A decent PC-style RPG for its time. They've kludged the Aurora engine into something more "action oriented" (i.e., timed mouse clicks for MASSIVE DAMAGE, though you'll be pausing often enough to toggle the right rock-paper-scissors "stance"). The writing's always been the strong suit, though I fear some fans were a bit too impressed by being directly bombarded with "You know, that was the result of a Morally Grey Choice™ from earlier in the game!" every so often.

Love the Witcher, and I love the world of the Witcher, but trying to pick this game up last year, the controls and handling had me pulling my hair out. My first playthrough was fun, back in 2009, but the game just did not age well.

Never completed it because it's just such a looooong game and it feels quite old now. But it has its moments and feels like an old BioWare game.

The story is really fantastic, but it's very clunky to play through.

Janky. It's clear that this is the first game these developers ever made. Theoretically, I should like this RPG but it's executed so strangely that I just couldn't get into it. The sequels are more my thing.

Its a tolerable, rich game actually with echanced edition. It has rough edges and and perform very poorly at some departments yet its thriving and fun. BUT.... The biggest problem about this game is quest/level design and the progress breaking bugs cuz of this. That side of the game made me tired and mad.

This game plays like it was made by a "rookie" developer. The voice acting is questionable, the story is under-baked, the combat is simplistic and boring, and the acts vary wildly in quality. Its easy to see how CD got better with time but this is a rough game to start with. Not without merit but uneven at best.

You could make a case that this is the best Witcher game. I don't want to put a label on what happened with the two sequels ("going mainstream" sounds like such a cliche, and "designed for consoles" isn't much better), but this one certainly has the stongest sense of identity. Delightfully odd. Started a trend of lousy combat systems that prevailed throughout the series.

The dark atmosphere is truly amazing. The story is interesting as well.

Not really my cup of tea, but I do see greatness in it and I can understand why people love this series so much.
