A case where the plot can be full of cliches, but the world-building and the atmosphere have something new to say, or something old in a new way. I remember just a little dialog, heard while exiting by Jensen's apartment, where a couple was in a middle of a fight because he get augmented but now she doesn't find him attractive anymore: "i need to feel human flesh on me, i'm sorry!" - "but we decided together!". The game is full of these little gems.

tried to replay this recently and boy, does it not hold up well. the control scheme is an absolute disaster on consoles, and the lack of support for a stealth system makes it difficult to adhere to a coherent playstyle. that said, the story and world-building is legitimately very good, and the sidequest options feel like believable extensions of the universe rather than "extra stuff to do." it's a shame Mankind Divided doubled down on the faults rather than the strengths.

A real return to form for the Deus Ex franchise, delivering one of the best sci-fi RPG experiences in the last decade, possibly only outclassed by Mass Effect. Excellent cyberpunk world complete with solid gameplay.

A solid return to form for the Deus Ex series, almost makes me forget Invisible War ever happened. A drastically advanced combat system, with a return to multiple-gameplay form makes DE:HR a great pick. If only the storyline, especially the ending, lived up to the original. As in every Deus Ex game, the Hong Kong levels are the pinnacle.

Liked this quite a bit - it really started to drag through at the end. Also, the boss fights drove me insane. They were honestly awful at times and almost made me drop it. The best parts of the game lean into the immersive sim elements and don’t focus on the gunplay. The graphics are pretty good for its era and don’t distract from the experience. The story was nothing special, really, just fine.

The fact that different gameplay approaches (sneak past / attack / do a takedown) gave different amounts of xp annoyed the hell out of me. Surely the gameplay approach should be based on the situation - giving fixed xp rewards just incentivises the player to do the same thing over and over again. I got so sick of that damn takedown animation! :shakes fist: The dialogue stuff is a cute gimmick, but the plot was largely unmemorable and seemed to be cobbled together last minute.

A more than worthy successor to Deus Ex, Human Revolution has an engaging story and a commitment to RPG elements which allow you immerse yourself in the game. The only knock I have against it is the horrible bosses thanks to the inclusion of a different studio doing that design work. Adam Jensen may not have asked for this but I certainly did.

The gameplay is fun, but the story is bad and the characters uninteresting. You also spend a large chunk of the game walking back and forth, waiting in elevators, waiting in scans, and waiting in decontamination chambers.

Hiatus. 78. I don't like the MC voice, it's deep and muffle, hard to hear what he's saying. Interesting cover system. I don't like that the dialogue options are so wordy. The strictness is way too harsh. You get caught hacking or failed hacking ONCE... ALL security will kill you on sight, you might as well reload save.
