Board Game
Risk is a strategy board game of diplomacy, conflict and conquest for two to six players. The standard version is played on a board depicting a political map of the earth.... Turn rotates among players who control armies of playing pieces with which they attempt to capture territories from other players, with results determined by dice rolls. The goal of the game is to occupy every territory on the board and in doing so, eliminate the other players. (wikipedia.org)

I mean, I like the strategic element of it, but every game takes like four hours to finish and everyone wants to quit long before that - especially if you're eliminated early and have nothing else to do.

Do you have 9 hours to kill with your friends? Me either.

Fuck the haters, I love Risk and I can still kill entire days playing this with some of my best friends. The only thing that sucks is that if someone gets knocked out early they have to just go do something else because the game will likely go on for hours after they're gone.

Teaming up with a friend to go after a 3rd party was always the highlight of this game. Then the 3rd party would call you cheap bastards and then flip the game board. That was the REAL highlight of the night.

A good game that might be great if they rebalanced the game around the fact that most people like to turtle in Australia or South America and just build their army while waiting for everyone else to weaken themselves.

Everyone knows you hole up in Australia or South America to take over the world. Australia preferred. (Neat but a bit unbalanced)

My cousin and I had a copy of this with no rules when we were 8 so we made our own. I became quite surprised when I learned later in the standard game all the units had the same value. Why even give different units then? There are probably more tactics and strategy in Stratego. And if you think you want something more war simulation than Stratego just sack up and play Axis and Allies.

Played this in my teens. It was alright. I disagree that Australia was a must, but Europe and Asia weren't easy to defend and late game wasn't as fun.

Could be fun but the gimmick is lame.

This Risk game is basically a harder and longer version than the one I have played. So basically in this one you can only fortify to the adjacent country. You can't have them cross countries even though they are connected. So basically you have 6 dice in this game. 3 for offense and 2 for Defense. In a Tie the Defense always wins. Don't know about this version but there is also solo missions in this game and other game modes. Takes too long however for 1 game.

It doesn't take a degree in International Relations to realize there is some truth to the way Risk works if applied to the real world. Roll a dice. Rural Russian provinces and Australia will survive the carnage.

Back in high school me and my friends would put in a lot of time into this game. Risk has some neat elements of army management and there are some risk/reward elements to consider, but the game feels really heavily reliant on dice rolls. It's fun for what it is, but there are far better board games that take the same concept and make it better.
