You control a family of characters one at a time, and when your character dies, you choose who his or her successor is, whether it is a barbarian son of yours who has OCD, your daughter who became a ninja even though she can't see well, an assassin who is fighting for the gays, or a miner who wants to collect gold! Traits are randomized each time upon death, leading to multiple playthroughs with 35 traits, each character will be unique.

Controls felt overly stiff and I didn't like how fucking weak my character felt through the whole thing. The gimmick is neat, but for a game like this to work you need to have level design that works with those controls, which the RNG crap in this game doesn't do. I dug the way they did progression, but I hated how overly punishing it was to die and building "the best character" ends up becoming moot if you die even once with him.

I actually found the grind to be pretty fun.

Like any Roguelike, it's very, very boring.

Found it super fun, even though the replay value is quite limited.

A nice little rogue-lite that has some bad boss design which holds back what might be an otherwise great experience.

It can be a fun time-waster until you grow to realize how shallow the gameplay is. You just keep throwing yourself at the game, dying, and buying upgrades until you've squashed the artificial difficulty by boosting your own stats to be higher than the enemies' stats.

I still think back on this fondly.

One of the games that really cemented the "Rogue-like" genre into the public eye. Pleasing graphics, fun gameplay, and interesting mechanics such as the generation system. An excellent indie title that is absolutely worth playing.

Not too much of a fan of the randomly generated type of game that doesn't do much beyond the concept

fails to do much of anything with its concept. the gimmick is almost entirely superficial, and the gameplay isn't quite fun enough to justify repeated playthroughs. score would be lower if it wasn't free on PS Plus.
