this was and is a legitimately groundbreaking game, with one of the best single-player campaigns in FPS history, and a revolutionary multi-player experience. never let the endlessly repetitive sequels take away from how great this game was.

That Ghilly suit mission is still one of my favourite levels in any video gae ever, but the story is a Michael Bay-esque trek through toxic masculinity, explosions and eye-candy set pieces. While revolutionary at the time, the multiplayer hasn't aged well, and of course, there's the overall problem of the entire game glorifying war and American imperialism.

Really great entry in the series.

The campaign has a lot of neat but shallow setpieces padded out with cheesy bullshit like infinite enemy spawns. That said, the whack-a-mole style of cover shooter never appealed to me and the multiplayer, while boasting some cool maps, have lame design elements that allow for stupid snowballing like killstreaks and the perk system. Really hate how this game set the standard for how FPS games were to be designed in this era.

This game was a revelation and I spent so much time on the multiplayer at its peak. I don't know if I could go back to that, but it at least does a few really good things and its story moments don't go as over the top as later entries would.

The second to last good Call of Duty game. It took the successful features from CoD2, brought it to a modern world with cool high tech (for 2007) weapons and geopolitical intrigues, that was a fun experience for everyone. Especially when I had a buggy mouse that double-clicked super quickly every time I pressed the left button and slayed everyone with the G3 in multiplayer... no, seriously, it's a game that's still pleasant to play 12 years later. Both in solo and multi modes.

The formula has been done to death by now but it is hard to overstate just how truly ground-breaking this game was for the time. It's not more than a solid game but boy did it start a revolution that the video-game industry is still not out of in 2020.

In “patient gamer” fashion, I have just now finally played through this game 13 years after its release (single player campaign; don’t care about FPS multiplayer). And it’s... pretty darn enjoyable! Cheesy macho military action with a good mix of all-out action, stealth, sieges, corridor shooting, cinematic set pieces, vehicles, etc. Difficulty curve seemed a bit off to me though. Like, mission 18 is no tougher than mission 5, while the hardest level is in the middle of the game.

Modern Warfare (2007) was absolute staple for it’s time. Quite possibly might be the most influential shooter of all time, and kickstarted one of the most successful gaming franchises of all time in Call of Duty. However, over time the game has shown it’s cracks. Even in the later remaster released in 2016, the games have made so many advancements since then. It’s still has it’s great maps and smooth gameplay, but it’s a pretty barebones shooter with a solid campaign at this point.

This was Call of Duty fast approaching it's peak and this made for a memorable game with some of the best single player FPS missions around. Held back a little looking back by it's lack of multiplayer variety but overall one of the COD highlights and a game that gave us many great characters and missions.
