Deus Ex is a game that does neither stealth or shooting particularly well, but the variety in how to build your character and approach scenarios makes Deus Ex still enthralling to play as you can hypothetically have multiple playthroughs that are all very different. The plot is completely non-sensical and I struggle to take it seriously, but there's a lot of cool world building and small intricacies that make the tale engaging, made better by how endearingly hammy it can get.

The greatest game ever made. Weaves world building, story telling and gameplay in ways no game before and few after have been able to realize.

hard to get into, but once you get to Shanghai it becomes clear why this is still held in such high esteem. I can only imagine playing it when it came out.

The gameplay and presentation are dated as hell, but the storytelling, atmosphere and worldbuilding are unlike anything else I've ever seen in a game.

really, really dumb conspiracy nonsense, but has the same sort of goofy amiability that defines the matrix. i mean, it really is the matrix. merely average in both fps, stealth and rpg aspects though, and i got kind of bored after a fairly long while.

Far better than any of its sequels; lightning in a bottle. Still has a lot of flaws though, especially with the volume of "monsters" that populate the later areas.

I'll take the GEP gun; this is the kind of game that requires heavy firepower. Has that MGS2 kinda feel to its gritty cyberpunk that becomes more and more disturbingly accurate as time goes on; other than that, with a little key rebinding this still holds up as the greatest immersive sim ever made, and probably one of the greatest games of all time.

As interesting as the level design and sim aspects are, this game shows its age. The shooting and stealth mechanics are dismal. I have to fight the controls to do anything; the complex aug and skill systems are cool but provide many ways to screw yourself. The game doesn't protect you from your own bad decisions. I'm stuck somewhere in the warehouse district atm with no med packs or ammo. I'll probably have to restart. I want to like it more than I do. Play with a guide.

Those were my favourite quotes: "The individual desires judgment. Without that desire, the cohesion of groups is impossible, and so is civilization." — Morpheus "The human being created civilization not because of willingness but of a need to be assimilated into higher orders of structure and meaning." — Morpheus "Number one: in 1945, corporations paid 50% of federal taxes; now they pay about 5%. number two: In 1900, 90% of Americans were self employed; now it's about 2%... it's called consoli
