A go to game for when I have a hankering to listen to Spotify or get nuts with an audiobook. You haven't lived till you've listened to all 40 odd hours of Stephen King's It while plucking the plumpest chickens.

I had strep throat a few weeks ago and bought this on the Switch. My beautiful farm got me through it. Every character sounds exactly the same, so the social aspect kinda blows, but the simple fantasy of owning my own property is greater than any swords and sorcery bullshit other games try to hook me with.

Aesthetically this game is just utterly remarkable. The pixel art is simply some of the greatest I've seen in years, maybe ever, the color and the mood and the artistry of it. Just gorgeous. Gameplay wise, well, I'm more mixed. I never quite crossed the threshold from finding it monotonous to finding it joyfully zen that you want to with these kinds of games.

Beautifully meditative with a Studio Ghibli-like touch of magic. Game play could be a little more controller friendly, but the wonderful visuals make up for that.

I never thought I could get into a farming game, but this game had me hooked. So much fun.

It's a fun farming game, but for me it never quite reached the peaks that old Harvest Moon did because the characters are weaker. Unlike those games, they don't age or really change at all over time, and are just kind of stagnant NPCs. But the game still gets updated, so maybe that'll change after I write this.

Massive time sink. Can be fun at times, but I realized I would have to play for 200+ hours to get anywhere and the thought of doing that depressed me. I put in 15 hours of fishing, farming, and fucking before turning it off for good.

Stardew Valley takes everything that made Harvest Moon the addictive powerhouse it was and amps it up to 11. With intuitive controls and a million things to do. This game could last forever and never get boring.

In terms of the Moonlikes, this one is a bit more on the RPG side; not quite Rune Factory but also not as mundane as Harvest Moon. That being said, this game has a lot of charm, and also a functioning multiplayer mode which is WILD to me. Could use MORE RPG-ing by my standards, as well as more in-depth heart events and inter-character interactions. Penny best girl.

Was expecting a boring farming simulator/jrpg but actually a very addictive, fun game.

Videogames are about living out fantasies that are impossible in real life. Like home ownership, or living in a walkable rural community, or being able to easily make friends as an adult.
