Contra's one of those games that- I don't even like the type of game, I'm not a shooter person, but grab a friend, put in the code, and off you go, arguing about who should get the spreader gun, cursing because you accidentally touched the rapid-rife one when you had a better weapon, telling him not to jump up so fast because you're gonna die off-screen... this is a play-with-a-buddy game.

Apparently, according to the internet, everyone in the world knew the cheat code and that made it a better game. Not in my hometown! We rented this constantly because it looked awesome and no one ever made it that far because it was brutally difficult. Actually, that's true of most NES games we played.

I really enjoy stages from 1-4 where I could actually survived. Rest of the stages are kinda bs with lots of dumb terrains and unexpected pop ins enemies. If konami code doesn't exist this game games gets a 80 but thanks to konami code, this game was pretty enjoyable.

Best Contra game ever. I actually beat this game without getting hit once. Which is like really hard to do. Side scrolling also a vertical scroll er on some levels. You get different weapons in this. Known for the 30 men code. I just use 3 men. Limited Continues with 3. This is a game I play over and over. It takes about 30 min to complete.

You might end friendships while fighting for who gets the weapon.

This game was great. If you put in the cheat codes, LT RT LT RT UP DOWN UP DOWN B A, you had 99 lives. It allowed you to let lose and have fun. ' Great game.

Contra one of the all time classic Arcade and NES games. Today the game & it's sequels are considered one of must have titles for the NES & SNES & to this day is best remembered for its fast pace game play & incredibly hard difficultly which seemed to increase with each new title in series With Xbox LIVE Arcade version of Contra very little has changed from original games. The storyline is relativity intact, taking place on an island over run by members of mysterious Red Falcon Terrorist Group.

The usual Konami polish, with a bit more variety in level types. One of those games where only one thing is more dangerous than the bullets being fired at you: accidentally picking up the wrong gun. Just hang on to the spreadshot for dear life, and you'll have some fun while it lasts.

Everyone remembers the cheat code. A repetitive ride but fun and challenging with a friend.

Honestly I've never been incredibly into this one compared to a lot of other NES platformers. As someone else here said, that one-hit-you're-dead thing was always a bit of a turnoff and had me pulling this one out and putting Mega Man back in.

While never, ever beaten without the alchemical Konami Code of Life, a game I appreciated for its audacity to strike me dead at the thought of a bullet. I admit the contradiction. The way the game constantly switched its off-screen goal (scroll right screen, up the screen, through the screen) was fairly ingenious for its time and place, and kept the possible repetition to a manageable minimum.

I found this ridiculously hard as a kid. One hit from a pellet bullet and you're dead? I didn't have the patience for that shit. An overrated game.
