God of War: Ragnarök is the ninth installment in the God of War series and the sequel to 2018's God of War. Continuing with the Norse mythology theme, the game is set in ancient Norway and features series protagonists Kratos, the former Greek God of War, and his young son Atreus. The game kicked off the events of Ragnarök, where Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as they prepare for the prophesied battle that will end the world.

Not only the best game I've played in ages, with a near perfect marriage between gameplay and story, but also one of, if not the best, use of Nordic mythology across any media, I can remember.

I'm not quite sure what to make of Ragnarok, and I don't think the game does either. Too many moves, too many cheap tricks in combat (no matter the difficulty), unsympathetic heros, good antagonist we have no reason to dislike until very late at best. There are elements to forge a master work, but the list of failures is too long.

A really well-executed PS5. Probably makes the best use of the PS5's features out of any game, maybe second only to Astro Bot. It's polished, and has some fun secrets to discover. It's not exactly my favorite genre, though. Memorizing the bosses' moves by retrying fights over and over, Elden Ring-style. Feeling quite railroaded while making your way through a world that feels like it should be more open. It's not exactly my cup of tea, but you enjoy!

It's technically still such a marvel - gigantic in scope, mature in presentation and produced magnificently. However, I knew at the end of the previous God of War that I was pretty burned out of the whole thing and when I started Ragnarok I realized that was true. I gave up a few hours into this one. I'm sure this is a fantastic game but it's just not for me.

It's more of the same from the first game. Top quality combat and storytelling with an amazing setting that really ramps up on the stakes from the first game. I do rate it slightly lower than the first though. The story just doesnt quite hit the way the first game did for me. Still a must play game. Plat difficulty - 3/10
