For me it's the definitive Star Wars game. Solve puzzles and murders, race swoop bikes, define your own moral compass with the force and reap different rewards based on that, shoot blasters, fight in arena, and visit exotic planets. It's great.

2. Replayed 18 years later (in 2021) - still great. An awesome story with some great side quests too. The best part of this is the incredible side characters written and enacted for this (apart from Carth, the annoying ever complaining wanker). The stars of the show are Canderous and HK-47 - phenomenal. The story and the plot-twist are great too, and the game itself doesn't get in the way of the good story, hehe. I only wish there was more of Mission. /completed twice

So amazingly satisfying to lightsaber battle, use force powers and fly in ships.

KotoR is one of the best RPGs when it comes to the decisions you make mattering. I loved being evil. At first I didn't love the combat system but it started working for me, and the story is awesome.

The plot of the game doesn't break any ground but it has a really nice Star Wars-y feel to it while still being its own original thing. While the RPG combat of the game felt really clunky and slow at times, exploring each world felt satisfying and despite being fairly tradition in the "good vs evil" morality of Star Wars there was still some cool twists throughout. It was neat to see people question the morality and competence of the jedi's and fleshed out their organization as a concept.

I'm not usually one for massive RPGs but the franchise pulled me in and then wouldn't let me go. The combat was so different from anything I'd known, and the moral quandaries and emotional stakes always felt relevant, made me question almost every decision I made. It really is one of the best Star Wars games and one of the best RPGs ever made.

The model for the approach to character-driven writing that would come to define a "Bioware RPG" (and their imitators) for many years to come. A fine use of the setting and its conventions all round. As far as gameplay, it's a post-Inifinity Engine quasi-turnbased pseudo-DnD with stat rolls aplenty. Funnily enough, that setup feels a bit less odd in a game like this where you don't need to pause so often. (Also, for better or ill, a prominent popularizer of big obvious alignment meters.)

[PC] Despite the aged graphics, KOTOR is a classic game not just for its engaging gameplay but also for the lore it added to the Star Wars universe. One of the pinnacle of offline RPG games, with a twist that rivals The Empire Strikes Back.

An almost perfect RPG, and the best Star Wars game possible. The plot twist toward the end of the game was maybe the greatest of any in an RPG. Once you can force push things, this game got ridiculously fun. And the characters are certainly memorable. After first beating this game years ago, I have gone back half a dozen times for more playthroughs. My only complaint is that the first couple of hours are tedious, even during the first playthrough.

I had a moderate obsession with Star Wars for a small time in my life, but eventually it faded into a general liking of it. Knights of the Old Republic came a few years after my obsession was faded and it was the closest I came to feeling that deep love all over again. It took me awhile to get used to the fight style. I never really liked it too much but I loved the game enough to power through it.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I never finished this game. I enjoyed most of the gameplay, but eventually I got fed up with my party members trying to stop me every five minutes to talk about their feelings. The lengthy dialogue interactions in general would turn out to be the main reason I can't get into most Bioware games. I lose patience so quickly.

This is the best Star Wars game ever made. It combines the brilliance of the Star Wars universe but tells its own story without being too derivative of the original films. Like all BioWare games, it has some of the best characters in the history of games. It also uses its Star Wars license to great effect, bolstering its gameplay with all the weapons, sounds, and powers we already know and love. If all this wasn't enough it also has a very resonant theme which is developed throughout the game.

One of the greatest RPGs ever made, back at the height of Bioware's power. Interesting and dynamic combat, a powerful story with what felt like true player contribution, and on top of that, a Star Wars theme. One of my all-time favorites.

I know I liked the gameplay more than in the sequel, but I don't remember why. Perhaps because the areas didn't feel so unfinished, or because the world seemed a bit more open. On the flipside, the plot is stupendously bad and can only be excused in the context of the general quality level of Star Wars fiction.

a genre defining game for me personally. it wasn't until I recently revisited it that I realized the true depth of world, story, and progression that make this game a gem
