I dig LttP's combat since there's a neat positional challenge in how attacks changes the position of both you and the enemy, not to mention the interesting tradeoffs in items. There's also a lot of cool stuff to find in the overworld and for as rote as it is I do like the novelty of SNES era JRPG towns with more action game controls. LttP isn't consistently great, the puzzles mostly suck and there are some bullshit parts like the caterpiller boss, but this is possibly the best Zelda.

Hot tip for this game and basically every game where you name your character. Type in "I'm gay" you'll thank me later after you recover from dying of laughter. Ho ho ho

Could this, the third Zelda and only the second in this overhead style, be the best Zelda game of all time? It's certainly in the conversation, with its perfectly designed world, great dungeons, terrific items, simply told story, well-balanced gameplay/challenge and lovely aesthetics (the main Dark World theme in particular remains one of my favorite VGM tracks of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sslj06K-Nlw ). Worth playing through in one long sitting!

The original Legend of Zelda may have had some fairly big, sprawling maps and secrets to explore back on the NES. What it did not have is this level of intricacy in how it fits to together. And, honestly, it wasn't this approachable, either. There's a certain art to gently guiding you along in a game with this much room for wandering and so many techniques to pick up along the way, and Nintendo set a strong example in how to do it.

I like the world and the item variety, but find myself not having the patience these days for the necessary amount of blind exploration and trial and error. Great soundtrack.

Almost as good as Ocarina of Time. This game was incredibly fun, and certainly made us want more of Link, reviving the series after a less than fantastic 2nd entry. Still enjoyable today.

Nostalgic good times. It was an improvement on what came before and one of the highlights from the SNES.

A great game and probably a lot of people's favorite Zelda that were born in the early 80s or sooner. Personally I liked Awakening a bit more but that's because I had a game boy first and it was one of the few games I had so I eat it over and over. I eventually got a SNES as a teen and beat this but I don't think I ever played it again or really had a desire to.

A legend in its own right. A Link to the Past is admittedly flawed and slow in some places. It is a wondrous adventure and a landmark in freedom in gaming. The game is a massive undertaking and well worth the effort.

My favorite Zelda title. Really large world for the SNES, and a secondary world to boot. Great fun to explore and learn all its secrets, and in doing so you unlock the story. It's the balance of complexity and simplicity that just works. Complex for all the gadgets, the levels, the sheer size and holes and items to buy and secrets. Simplicity because you're still a guy with a sword out to find Zelda.

Note: I played the GBA port, not the SNES version. It may well be one of my favourite entries of the Zelda franchise, with a very large world for the technological level of the consoles, lots of characters, enough side quests to be an entire good game by themselves... And the storyline is my favourite, although it's purely subjective.

The greatest 2D adventure game ever made. Everything in this game drips with excellent production design from the combat, the sprite-work, the dungeon layouts, the overworld, and the numerous items. Just a classic in every way.

Yeah this is an ok game. I don't have a problem with the over head world and the gameplay of the character...My problem in this game is the map and a lack of focus of direction, things being difficult to find because it's simply not marked on the map to make it easier..If they had that I would give this game a lot higher.
