Lots of cheap deaths, the perspective often leads to deaths. I had inputs get eaten (playing on steam deck), but in between that was some good platforming. God help anyone doing it without save states.

The High Road is one of the worst levels in good game gaming. Just a total bullshit slog until you just give up and tightrope it.

Not that great of a game. I remember this guy was advertised vs Mario at the time. While the commercials were cool. I thought they had did a poor job in this game. This game is really hard. You die on 1 level you are start back the previous 3-4 levels you already completed even though this was one of the first game to save on a memory card.

Dumb fun, but also lame level design.

The emblematic platformer of the PS1's early days (back when every system needed an emblematic platformer). A nice, straightforward platforming challenge. Some call the N64 a system designed around one game (Mario 64). This, though, was a game designed around probing to see just what they could squeeze out of a new system. The less enemies on screen at once, the better it runs, so let's throw in lots of boxes instead (only 6 polygons per box, and they don't even move, it's a bargain)!

it starts off as the game i thought i remembered and loved. was at least an 80. then a bunch of levels, mainly the dark/tech ones are meh. boss fights are cool. too many repetitive levels. but i love crash's attitude. he might be my fav mascot cuz he always starts like "you ready to do some shit?" and he looks excited etc lool. and i love how the boxes you missed drop on his head. a lot of the bonus box sections were cool

While fairly revolutionary for its time, Crash Bandicoot has some good controls but is severely limited by it's sub-par level design and very aged graphics.

Originally scored this higher on a nostalgia rating, but having replayed it in the N. Sane Trilogy and giving up, I'm rescoring it lower.

Running towards the camera works in movies, seldom in gaming. It's the 16-bit equivalent of "Press B to Not Die". Outside of this one level design flaw, which I have apparently really taken personally over the years, there was charm here and decent playability overall.

One of my first platforming forays outside of Mario. But I've returned to it several times in the intervening years and it's always remained tightly controlled, chockful of unique level designs, charmingly original, and grippingly difficult.

The start of one gaming's most well-known franchises, but ultimately, the weakest game of the three. Frustrating, pixel perfect jumps abound throughout, and generally extremely punishing. It's still Crash Bandicoot, and still fun.

Childhood classic that aged pretty well.

Always found it a bit shallow stacked up against other contemporary 3D platformers, leaning less toward exploration and more toward arcade-style action. But after how frustrated I became with the likes of Donkey Kong 64 maybe I should go back and give it another shot.

Has THE dumbest save system in any game ever. Despite that, Crash was revolutionary for its time as it showed how one could successfully make a 3D platformer alongside Mario 64. It's a bit rough around the edges today, but the level design is still solid and the gameplay is pure platforming at its finest.

I loved playing this and 'Crash Bandicoot 2' with my siblings. My expertise was handling those levels where Crash is running downwards (against "the camera").

My favorite of the series for how challenging it is, one of the only games I've ever felt truly compelled to 100%

[PS2, Android emulator] A classic that is just as fun (and just as hard) today as it was the day it was released. Quick levels, and fast gameplay keeps it interesting.
