A very mature and well thought-out adventure, with a great realisation of its Norse setting, well-written and -acted characters, and some lovely visuals. The combat gameplay is the weak point for me - it can be a bit uninspired hack-and-slashy, but it doesn't hugely detract from a great experience.

After replaying this game, it's just an absolute masterpiece. I've just come from playing the whole series in chronological order, most for the first time, so I have a new appreciation for the character, and just how much this game improved the series. Very few games reach this level of greatness.

That such an incredible, thoughtful story managed to come from the same team who made the "KILL SHIT CRUSH BITCHES" originals is nothing short of a miracle.

I'm late to the GoW party, as the series never appealed to me. I've no bg in the old games. This one, from what I can tell, looks to have done a great job balancing its story for fans and newcomers. The blend of Norse and Greek mythology is neat, and the adventure is well crafted. There were annoying parts (though for good reason) and the gameplay is very repetitive, and not my style. But it's a well crafted game overall with no real flaws outside my personal preferences.

I love this game and is one I want to come back to again in the future just to enjoy it all over again. The story is fantastic and the Norse setting was perfect to accompany it. The combat is easy enough to pick up but hard to master which never got dull for me. A definite must play. Plat difficulty - 4/10

Absolutely outstanding game. Loved the story and evolution of the characters throughout. Combat was fine, started to get a little bit stale toward the end, but I’m just nitpicking at this point. Production value is top notch. The bosses could have been a little bit better and there was some enemy recycling, but it really didn’t bother me much.

This is my first experience with the GoD series and... it's an extremely tedious 3D platform game. I was expecting Witcher, but instead I got Mario. The gameplay mainly consists of moving between different locations and solving repetitive logical puzzles. The story is not the worst, but it's not the best either. The game is badly optimised. The processor is working at full speed while the graphics card is idling. Good graphics and enjoy-able Nordic theme.

Gameplay: good. At the hardest difficulty level, presents a challenge. Story: poor. Characters are cartoony and tropey. "End game" is grindy and repetitive, and on hardest difficulty involves too many encounters that feel more luck than competency based.

Everything in God of War is good but not great, except for the production: Sony spent some money and it shows. Combat is fine. The open-world is okay. The story is pleasantly simple. I wish I could say this all comes together in a meaningful way but it just doesn't. This is the most human Kratos has ever been but he's still distant. Fleeting moments of anger, sadness, joy, humor, and teaching instantly give way to "hrrr, gruff protagonist." It's this relative safety that holds the game back.

An incredible video game that occasionally becomes an okay one. When it is harnessing story, spectacle, and ferocious combat well this game fucking sings, and those moments outnumber the less great moments of slightly grindy/aimless stuff.

I did find the kid pretty annoying most of the time. I did try to throw him an axe in his face, let him fall to his death but nothing work, i had to keep doing the adventure with him. Also disappointed that i could not visit a lot of the other realms, but i did like the exploitation of Norse mythology. Also boat is boring, and the gameplay is ok despite the lack of variety of enemies.

Really like the art direction, and have no problem with these 3rd person isometric hack & slashers. The mythology was woven seamlessly into gameplay & I quite dig that, despite all the naysayers.

could use less puzzles, and more bosses instead of like... 3 fights with the same guy, two or three other bosses, then a whole cast of recurruring mini bosses. the rpg

Story is decent. I don't know if it's the best story out of the God of war games. I did like the original God of Story a lot better. Game play is average and not as good as the other ones. You got annoying puzzles in this one and you can't really fight enemies in this as you run around having your son shoot the enemies for you. This won game of the year. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a lot better than this. I wouldn't even recommend this over the original God of War.

I'm going to give it a 90 but it does have some small issues. It doesn't have that much variety in the mini bosses (different elements but ultimately very similar fights), Baldur is a cool fight but again it's a little repetitive. The "platforming" is just fluff. But I love the story so much, the interactions between the two, the visuals, the combat is great, it's a proper adventure. Enjoy that there's some exploration/non-linearity but it's not open world.

Yes, it's fantastically well-written and directed, but the game always tries to juggle between it's more cinematic and gameplay aspects which led to very poor design choices lack of polish in enemy and combat design in some parts. Still, it's certainly impressive what was achieved here and I hope its flaws get improved in the sequel.

God of War III is one of my favorite games of all time. This game sucks. The kid is super annoying. God of War III you start off fighting a god. In this you fight some lame Odinist asshole. Fuck this game.

A near perfect blend of measured combat (Dark Souls), linear-yet-non-linear exploration (Darksiders 2), an in-depth skill and crafting system, and topped off with a genuinely breathtaking story/writing with a companion that doesn't suck total balls in a fight (think the Last of Us/Bioshock Infinite). Only defining flaw, I feel, is the sometimes inflexible checkpoint system (finding a boss, leaving and hitting a checkpoint, then coming back and dying to said boss resets you to that checkpoint).
