Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
[GTA:SA] is played from a third-person perspective in an open world environment, allowing the player to interact with the game world at their leisure. The game is set within the fictional U.S. state of San Andreas, which is heavily based on California and Nevada... The plot is based on multiple real-life events in Los Angeles, including the rivalry between the Bloods, Crips, and Hispanic street gangs, the 1980s crack epidemic, the LAPD Rampart scandal, and the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Just follow the damn train CJ! * curls into the fetal position* You have no idea how horrible and orange this game looked in the opening section.

This is my favourite GTA game in the series. I played this originally on PS2 and I'm currently replaying it for the first time since on PC thanks to GInput finally allowing for full controller compatibility. Great characters, fun and varied missions, but my word the soundtrack is just legendary and frequently results in my deliberately delaying progression in order to continue cruising and listening to some choons!

Vice City gets acclaim because of the setting and the soundtrack, but San Andreas for me is still the best GTA game (and more or less a perfect game). It has equally great music, huge sense of scale, seemingly endless things to do, and if I was to play it again I would still spend an hour fucking about on a bike.

Still maybe the most entertaining collection of characters in videogame history, and my favourite of the series, before the Housers started dabbling in themes they don't really have the writing chops to pull off.

What's better than beating hookers to death in one city? Beating hookers to death in three cities, of course! Once again Rockstar captured the aesthetic of early 90's Los Angeles, with a heavy focus on gang life. Who knew riding a bicycle in a video game could be so much fun.

I could not figure out how to play it was just frustrating

One of my favorite games. In terms of story and setting, right up my alley. Just the sheer size of the map was just ludicrous at the time, too. Plus, pretty much nothing beat dogfighting in a harrier jet, probably my favorite use of a cheat code ever.

Decently fun and iconic classic. I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.

Until GTA V came along, this was the best in the series. SA is still my personal favorite, and I still dig my OG XBox out of the closet for it every so often. There's so much to do and so much creativity and zeal on display, and CJ was an actually likeable GTA character.

Well, still nothing beats that in the all GTA franchise. So many interactions, memorable great side characters, and NPCs. Nice world and a decent plot.

The last two games had imitators aplenty, but this one set the high bar as far as sheer scale, detail and variety for the settings and activities, defining what the open-world genre as such would be chasing after for a long time to come. New driving mechanics are fun, but controls for most other things are clunky, and missions are finicky. It finds a decent balance of making the characters work within the frankly goofy tone, even if the cynically 'mature' satire wears fairly thin.

It shows its age somewhat, but the graphics are still passable. Voice acting and script is as high calibre as you'd expect from GTA, and the plot is solid if a little iffy with pacing. Combat would benefit from more refinement, and any flying section is simply awful. Bonus points for Shaun Ryder and Danny Dyer.

back then it was one of the best games ever but too outdated. i loved the rpg stuff like weightlifting and learning to fight, eating etc. all your stats. changing hair and clothes. the beginning hood shit was the best. once you get into the cowboy area and cop shit it falls off. turf wars were cool but had annoying frequency. going on cheat rampages in this was so fun and it was never better than in this one and only got worse each game

Cons: Territory system, RPG elements, Time-restricted missions, Labrynthine Map, Long Tedious drives to begin missions, Bad handling on most vehicles, Getting insta-killed at the start of missions. Easier than I remember (possibly later version?) Very over-rated. Worst GTA up to that point. The 'stories' games are better. But it did keep me coming back until I finished, though once or twice I wavered.

For all the praise GTA III got, the franchise didn't realize it's true potential until San Andreas. Even the simple act of riding a bike manages to be more fun than most games could be at their maximum. I had loads of fun listening to the radio, waiting for "White Wedding" to come on, and then killing as many people as possible before Billy Idol stopped.

GTA: San Andreas was a low point in the series. The humor hit a new low and the gameplay remained the same. With very few innovations aside from those designed to cause controversy.

Hands down my favourite from the GTA series. I spent countless hours just mucking around, buying every house, filling every garage, collecting every horseshoe, spraying every tag, finding every clam... man did I put some hours into this game, blasting the radio, laughing at the talkback, throwing on my custom tunes, flying around the place, looking for cool skydive spots, cruising around, busting out my bunnyhopping skills... man did I put some hours into this game.
