Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Just follow the damn train CJ! * curls into the fetal position* You have no idea how horrible and orange this game looked in the opening section.

What's better than beating hookers to death in one city? Beating hookers to death in three cities, of course! Once again Rockstar captured the aesthetic of early 90's Los Angeles, with a heavy focus on gang life. Who knew riding a bicycle in a video game could be so much fun.

Still maybe the most entertaining collection of characters in videogame history, and my favourite of the series, before the Housers started dabbling in themes they don't really have the writing chops to pull off.

This is my favourite GTA game in the series. I played this originally on PS2 and I'm currently replaying it for the first time since on PC thanks to GInput finally allowing for full controller compatibility. Great characters, fun and varied missions, but my word the soundtrack is just legendary and frequently results in my deliberately delaying progression in order to continue cruising and listening to some choons!

Vice City gets acclaim because of the setting and the soundtrack, but San Andreas for me is still the best GTA game (and more or less a perfect game). It has equally great music, huge sense of scale, seemingly endless things to do, and if I was to play it again I would still spend an hour fucking about on a bike.

I'm sorry but this one aged like milk. Yes the world is huge and that part is fun, but the game is ruined by the beginning having missions so annoyingly hard that you never get past Los Santos, like the game forces you to play a dance mission where the timing is never fully explained or a racing mission where the car will stop at every curve making it impossible to win and if you do not win either the game wont let you continue the story. Not to mention the Train mission which is ass

San Andreas!! Such a great game. So much to do, and unlike GTA 5, it fits it all in well.

A sprawling, messy masterpiece
