Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
A prequel to the Mario franchise, the game casts players as Yoshi as he escorts Baby Mario through nearly 50 levels in order to reunite him with his brother Luigi, who had been kidnapped by Baby Bowser's minions. Yoshi runs and jumps to reach the end of the level while solving puzzles and collecting items. In a style new to the series, the game has a hand-drawn aesthetic and is the first to have Yoshi as its main character. (Wikipedia)

Gorgeous game but don't you dare get hit once or you'll suffer the wrath of a crying idiot baby.

An example of a sequel that totally changes the aesthetic and gameplay style - and, hell, in this case the player character himself - from its predecessor while not pissing me off doing so. This is nearly as great as the original Mario World. The visual style is unique on the SNES, and it's challenging without being cheap or frustrating. And the final battle in epic in a way even the biggest darkest highest-budget 3D games today struggle to match!

Your main motivation is to keep that damned baby quiet.

I'd love to rate this higher but anyone who has played this game knows the main motivation is to not hear the ear piercing screech of baby Mario.

an absolutely gorgeous game that improves upon Super Mario World in every way.

Mechanically it's pretty limp with unchallenging quasi-shooter segments that basically has regenerating health. But enemy placement and design is generally more interesting than most 2d Marios it and it has a lot of gimmicks that worked pretty well. Haven't played it in a long time so maybe I need to give this a retry.

Yoshi's Island may not be traditional, but it's overwhelmingly cute and annoying all at the same time. The level design and difficulty curve leave something to be desired. However the music, charm and unique style will probably win over fans.

This is the best-looking game of the SNES era. It also brims with more excellent level design. Everything is fairly light and fun but it is still difficult enough to remain interesting. The sound design is excellent as well.

Too easy, though it does get harder later, everything else is well done. Was perfect for me as a child but not any more so it's hard to know which rating to give it.

Such a good platformer! The puzzle elements are great, baby Mario is an annoying PITA but the game's good enough to make up for it.

Can't stand this game. When baby Mario goes off Yoshi he makes the most annoying sound ever in this game.

It's very charming and not a bad game, but bearing the name of its incredible predecessor leads to crushing disappointment when it doesn't reach its heights.
