Undertale

The game's attempts at humor are outright insufferable in a way that makes characterization cringworthy and I didn't care much for its juvenile attitude towards violence and pacifism. On the other hand, the game is clever with using its gameplay for meta manipulation and the way battles are used to convey personality is charming while offering a lot of variety to its gameplay. The visuals are also mesmerizing, especially being one of the few 2D games that use lighting to great effect.

Not a fan of heavy moralizing, but otherwise this game is brilliant.

Funny and atmospheric. Also nice branching story paths. Gameplay is okay, but the real star of the game are the atmosphere, characters and humor.

Perhaps its reputation coloured my expectations too much, but I found this a decent-enough experience with some interesting mixtures between innovation and derivation without setting my world on fire.
