Hot playthrough tip: Select lie every single time or bad cop and watch Cole Phelp's World's Worst Detective unfold. Bi-polar monster man.

Excellent game. Remember playing this when it first came out. I fully beat this getting every clue in this game via a walk through. Otherwise it is so hard in this game to get every question right. Unique game because it was one of these games like Heavy rain where you explored and tried to solve clues. 1 of the better Rock star games

It's a very interesting tech demo but this often still veers too much into the realm of GTA. The tech systems themselves are not used well enough either. It's still fun to see how much the facial systems work.

I do wish the game was tighter on its focus on detective work instead of sandbox shenanigans and underground gunfights - perhaps because the writing was decent. Extra points because Downtown Los Angeles is my everyday stomping ground, and the level of historical accuracy and craftsmanship was a joy. When the APB said there was a bank heist at the exact address I currently live in, I involuntarily shouted, "FUCK YEAH THERE IS!" and accepted that shit.

An interesting tech demo that nails the setting and presentation, unfortunately the game itself is pretty bleh. Investigations are a joke - it relies mostly on ridiculous over acting and silly facial expressions as obvious tells for people lying. The investigation is very hand holdy and ultimately the value of the clues you find are laid out to you. The open world is superfluous to the point the game even gives you a "skip" function, the shootouts are hardly any better.

I like the jazzy music in this game. But lots of tunes are repeated, and get old fast. Daily cases of LA bore with chasing at the end. I hate tailing people. Multiple choice question isn't really a fun game mechanic. Crashing cars with Phelps comments is dang funny. All cases feels like basic fillers as it doesn't have any stakes till MUCH later in the story. Ending wasn't satisfying.

It's decent. The unique way they handled motion capture is certainly interesting, although I don't think it aged that great. The concept of investigating crimes and figuring out which dialogue choices to pick was a good idea, but I don't think it all works that well. The correct choices aren't always as clear as they should be, but also there should be a bit more flexibility in the dialogue trees. The city was well designed, so that was fun to explore, although some collision was annoying.

It's been a bit but I remember I did not like this game, I felt like some choices and conclusions didn't really make sense.

I liked it, does some things very well, but can also get a bit repetitive. Generally quite good.

What's the facial expression for "i really like open-world rockstar games, but i'm not sure how i feel about the tons of opportunities missed here"? A blank stare? Check.

I really wanted to like this game. But there were many things that made it painful to play. The arbitrary/nonsensical/confusing interviews/interrogations Simple but pointless "shuffle things around" puzzles. So much driving around!, Then suddenly you're a different person!? The story was a confusing Frankenstien of old movies and the plot that faded in and out through the different cases. Some of them being just confusing. I played it to the end, I'm not sure my time was well spent.

An amazing game experience. The painstaking recreation of post World War II Los Angeles was beautiful. I would sometimes just drive around looking at different landmarks and compare them to modern day L.A. (via Google maps) To this day it still has the best mouth movements of any video game, as the facial motion capture was extremely detailed. Too bad the company folded. If any game deserves a sequel, it's this.

i think the detective shit just let me down. maybe especially the crime scene stuff. but like you had to replay missions if you got certain results and that was lame. and the dialogue wheel was trash and i never knew what i was gonna say well enough, so i had to pause and use a guide i think, and you dont have enough time anyways to choose

I respect the ambition to make a noir-themed AAA game, but the end result is just about what you'd expect: a lot of cutscenes with some gameplay tacked on. The cutscenes aren't bad, but it eventually gets a bit monotonous.

Lot's of fun. Works well if you play cooperatively with others to solve the cases.

A cool idea. I love Noire, and I loved LA Confidential, but when the game became a series of shootouts, and the characters handled them casually, I lost interest. The idea of being a detective and following clues and logic and psychology to close cases is great, but this game failed to do this effectively. A neat experience, but it quickly gets tiring.

Aside from the wonderfully constructed and authentic 1940s LA environment, the core interest here is in the detective crime scene investigations and the technically marvelous suspect interrogations, and that is where L.A. Noire works best, however everything in between is poor with clunky action and dull driving sections. When the detective sections become a little repetitive, overall progression starts to become more of a grind and personally I lost interest and failed to finish the game.
