Batman: Arkham City

Action, Adventure
Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players flying through the expansive Arkham City - five times larger than the game world in Batman: Arkham Asylum - the new maximum security "home" for all of Gotham City's thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds.

I'm in love with most of the Arkham games, this is the best of them. As many critics have noted, you feel like Batman which is important. The open world is fun, I still think the combat is one of the bigger innovations in combat in recent years, still not sick of the style, especially since this game does such a good job of making your moves relatively unique. Wonderful story, brooding atmosphere.

Greatest Batman Movie Ever. Yes not even as a game. As a way of cinematic storytelling. This could be the best. Dialogs, mysteries, thriller, combat action all of'em are superb. Total package.

Arkham City is undoubtedly one of my favourite action games of all time. For starters, you're Batman! And he plays perfectly in AC, building on the surprisingly close to perfect start to the series that was Asylum, and expanding the gameplay to a true open world format around a locked down Gotham City environment. The stealth sections are fun but it's the combat system which shines offering a true ballet of violence to the player's fingertips. Outstanding and for me the best Arkham game.

Terrific gameplay, story-telling, world-building and voice-acting. A great example of what can be accomplished when great screenwriters and great game-makers work together on a video game

I actually liked this less than Arkham Asylum, though it's still very good. It really makes you feel like you're the Batman.

I liked it better than the first one. Same concept here as you fight enemies.

The open world, while a nice back-of-box feature, hampers this experience to a great degree. The original setting made the story extremely tense: you had no idea what would be around the next corner. The open world sacrifices this and it has a far weaker story as well, special shout-out to the horrible character-motivation of Clayface. Still, the gameplay is still very tight and this still understands the core concept of feeling like the Dark Knight.

I loved Asylum, but City just feels like it has no idea what to do with its city. Asylum told a story with its environment and characters, but City is just a sandbox full of things to do without any real context or meaning. Like Red Dead Redemption, the non story stuff gets really repetitive and boring after a while. Unfortunately, the story stuff isn't very good either.

It actually improves on Asylum, gives a bigger world, has more going on. Yes, just yes. This game left me fulfilled. It could only go downhill from here.

While City does improve upon pretty much everything (except the Detective Mode, that’s much less fun to use), I can’t help feeling like it’s still mostly stuff I’ve done before. Gliding around the city is great, and so is all of Batman’s new gadgets and moves (the new combat system is particularly better), but the rest doesn’t feel like enough of a difference to make it BAM! me in the face like the original did.

Definitely the best superhero game but ... is this also the supreme 3rd person action game? It beefs up everything that was already amazing with Arkham Asylum and fixes all the nagging issues (story, small setting), too. It perfectly captures Batman's essence, has interesting side activities, adds the ability to play as multiple characters, throws in engaging challenges for post-game fun ... This isa masterpiece.

The beginning of a series of missteps for the Arkham series. Opening the world up to such massive proportions made the game feel diffuse, more spread out, and not quite as impressive. Still, the gameplay was super tight, the visuals were great, the story interesting and fleshed out, and there's plenty to do.

They manage to expand on almost everything that made the first game great. More cool combat moves and you get to glide over Gotham (I may or may not have gone Whee! while doing said gliding) and land heavily on bad guys as a way to start a fight. It doesn't have the same creepy, claustrophobic atmosphere or the brilliant mindfuck of the first, but it manages to be its own game so much that you don't really miss it.

Basically just improves on Arkham Asylum in most ways, most importantly boss battles and campaign length. I would suggest ignoring the rest of the series beyond this point.

A lot more drudgerous to play than its prequel. The game pushes the negative aspects of the Arkham formula by making the setting more open world, and dumping out a lot of lame challenges through the game world. The game was better when it was more concise and you didn't have to spend so much time getting from point A to point B. Compared to Asylum, there's less stealth challenges and the story has somehow managed become lamer.

More fun following the intensely satisfying Arkham Asylum. It's well crafted in every aspect, from voice acting to mechanics. Solid.
