Before Risk came along, this was the game most likely to destroy your friendships.

Monopoly: Ruining families since 1935. The game most likely to get you to call your mom a dumb bitch!

a perfect metaphor for society. the Parker Brothers crafted a system by which they could demonstrate that capitalism is needlessly cruel and horribly broken, and people still use it 80 years later because they can't think of anything better to do

Ok, maybe my score is unfair. Monopoly isn't the worst game ever, but its actually bad. The pacing is tenuously slow for how simple turns should be. Unlike other slow games based on your "decisions", Monopoly can be solved. Chess can't. And since Monopoly can be solved, with some moderately intelligent people it's just an exercise in who gets more lucky with the dice. Even on turn 1, most of the Chance and Community Chest cards are valueless. It shows its age in all the wrong ways. Let it die

Boo! Hiss! The anti-life, the grinding gears of capitalism catching small children and bored families in their grasp, the terrible fate passed down from generation to generation to those who've never tasted better!

We still have family grudges from back -93 due to this game. Good fun.

Tedious at times. A certain level of strategy and a great deal of luck. Nobody remembers that this game was written to be social commentary about how bad monopolies were, so if you're not having fun that's supposed to be the point. Nevertheless, it is still the baseline of what board games try to be.

I can understand the appeal but this game is far too tedious and takes much longer than it should to finish a game. It's a testament to how far board-game design has come that this was once the best-selling game of all time.

How else would you teach capitalism to kids?

Any time I played this I never actually finished it. Monopoly feels like it lasts forever and at no point was it ever interesting or enjoyable. Eventually, the game comes to a point where it feels like it moves at a snail's pace and ceases to be enjoyable.

I personally like this game, but every time I play with my friends or family, it always ends with a huge argument and everyone hates each other.

I play the new version of this game with the new gen friends. My old gen friends won't play this game at all. The newer version is a lot better as it tells you what the mortgage prices are. Also it gives you what the double rent is for each property. They took out the 10% paying on income tax and increased the Luxury tax to $100. With all board games if you don't like original rules you can always play with house rules.

I wish people would play with my house rules. No hotels, a limited number of houses, and enforce that everything goes to auction shit.

More luck-based than strategy based, and way, way too long to really play most times between setup and the way it drags on. Still classic.

Once you figure out how to win, it's gets boring fast.

Legendary board game.

Ah the fights my family used to get in.

Cleverly demonstrates Lenin's thesis of "Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism," viz. that concentration of production and monopolization of property...-- nvm, just a boring-ass B-O-R-E-D game.

I like this game when you play by the rules but I was raised in a house that believed when you land on free parking you get a bullshit money collection from some other bullshit house rule. WAH.
