I understand this game's appeal to certain groups (kids, autists, my retired father-in-law), but it has little to offer me.

It's nice that someone made digital LEGO for all the poor kids out there, but I'm afraid it's not for me.

AKA autism simulator. Initially I thought this game was garbage with awful combat and a boring world having played it ten years ago, But I've warmed up to it after seeing the creative ways the game has evolved and how things like the trapper playstyle allow for interesting, creative strategies in PvP settings. On the other hand, I still find the grinding to be a chore and still think the basic combat is garbo, but there's so many dimensions to this game that's hardly relevant.

I feel like this game would probably be fun once you've invested a lot of time into it, but it starts out so insanely boring that I'm amazed anybody has ever gotten to that point.

I rather lay on my bed and think about life than play this.

I can respect what's on offer, but I don't enjoy it.

I hate these super-free-form, open-ended games. Waste your time more productively. Go pick up litter or something.

I watch people play on Youtube and it gives me an itch to play, and then I start playing and remember I am very slow at the game and it's not that fun to play alone and I don't want to play with people who are crazy good because they will blow past me. Eh. I probably would have loved it if I was 13 or so when it came out.

I really don't understand this game in the slightest and I'm shocked it's become one of the biggest games of all time. Is this the equivalent of the Twilight Saga for Video Games?

Childhood video game. So much of it is a 10/10. It's kind of gotten confusing these days so that's why I don't play it as much, but I will always go back.

The developers haven't really done anything with the game, and there really isn't much there. But I have so much nostalgia playing on faction servers with my friends.

I don't think I've ever put so many hours into one game in my life. There is so much that you can do in this game. If you like to make stuff, just anything in general, this is the game for you. If you do not like to make stuff, then play Wreck-It Ralph.

I played Quake with Notch over Skype back in the day, and looking back, yeah he was a bitch ass motherfucker back then, too. He was all "ooh it's gonna be like Dwarf Fortress!" AND THEN IT NEVER WAS. That being said, chill-ass game and also one of the most profoundly moddable games of all time.

It's fun with friends, and a bit addicting at first, but it quickly becomes a grindy bore.

On paper, this game shouldn't work. In practice, this game taps into the sense of wonderment and adventure the way no game has since the Legend of Zelda. It doesn't start off as great but it has yet to get old, even hundreds of hours later.

You really do make your own fun in this game- but when you can, it's a blast. Far better with friends.

Minecraft is perfect for not only the creative types, but gamers in general. There are endless things to build and do. If there was ever a game that could be considered completely flawless, it's this one.

I have nowhere near the patience needed to play this and build my own game. However I do occasionally enjoy checking out people's uniquely insane projects on YouTube (building Westeros, Middle-earth, working computers, etc).

You can spend an obscene amount of time in this game doing nothing - or obsessively doing an obscene amount of not much.

The quintessential builder game that became an empire. Simple, yet deep game that allows you to do whatever you want. Unfortunately, the gameplay itself is a bit basic, and the charm wears off after a while, but I understand why kids love it so much.

This game has a weird blend of depth and simplicity that makes it work both for just something to goof around in for a couple hours or obsessively build a monument to the gods. I had shared game with a friend and while he was gone I built a giant tower that reached the skybox and had a 50 foot tall Trump sign to overshadow his normal sized house. Then I moved the minecart rails in his mine to surprise end in a pool of lava. I'm an adult.

Endless amounts of fun (almost literally); the base game itself features hundreds of ways to play, from mining, farming, ranching, fighting, building, brewing, crafting, leveling up, foraging, exploring, etc. Some mechanics are less refined than others, but consistent feedback-based updates keep Minecraft packed with new content. Minecraft is many hours of fun for all ages.

The obsessive fan culture around this game is sickening. The game itself is fine, but Minecraft music videos? I might be sick

What you can in this game is not limited by your imagination, (I mean people have literally built working video games inside this game) ,but rather by your patience. It takes a certain type of person to be patient and dedicated enough to spend hours just placing blocks on top of one another in dedication to their creative imagination. Me? I spent 15 minutes writing "Butts" in the sky and then got bored.
