A 2D platformer and first entry on the SNES in the Super Mario franchise, Super Mario World follows Mario as he attempts to defeat Bowser's underlings and rescue Princess Peach from his clutches. The game features a save system, a less linear world map, an expanded movement arsenal and numerous new items for Mario, alongside new approaches to level design and art direction.

Jumping on a goomba and they don't squish like in the previous games but flip over and can be picked up. We're in the big leagues now.

If you're not flying around on a blue yoshi eating molemen who even are you?

Right out out of the gate at the SNES launch, Nintendo put out yet another title that showed that as far as platformers were concerned, no one else would be challenging their combination of scale, variety, polish, and intricate design for some time to come.

One of my favourite Mario games.

Played through this for the first time in 2021 and it still feels so fresh

The 2D Marios are games I appreciate more than actively enjoy, but there's so much great stuff in here.

A big game for a big cons... WAIT, THIS CAME OUT ON THE SNES. (Its a good one)

Considering it is now more than 30 years old, 'Super Mario World' feels amazingly modern, and few, if any, of its design elements would feel out of place in a recent platformer; everything about its controls, art, tone, music, etc. exudes mature craftsmanship and precise tuning, and cleverly contributes to guiding the players along a predetermined path while instilling in them a sense of discovery, invention and achievement.

This may be the game I played the most in my childhood, and coming back to it as an adult, it feels viscerally good to play. It's colorful, controls well, has neat powerups, interesting challenges, a nice-sized world with not-too-much depth, extra challenge levels, funny moments, spooky moments, WTF moments... If someone had never played a platformer and asked me which one they should start with, I would say this. It not only teaches you how to play it, it teaches you why you would want to.

A bit slippery and because of lack of good memories, I'm a bit cold to it. It's nice. Lack of timely saves is a bit unfortunate as well.

The best of the best Mario platformers. This one is the gold standard for level design and music in particular. For Mario fans, the 2d realm would never be this good again.

Wow when this first game out I was blown away. Never owning this game as a kid because I was one of those who had a Genesis. I would play this at a friend's house. This game adds Yoshi and takes the Mario 3 game and makes it even better with now a Save file.. Huge Worlds and mini bosses that are all unique so not the same boom boom boss you saw in Mario 3. Must have if you own a Snes.

Fantastic. Incredible. It was a breath of fresh air for platforming, the mechanics were ahead of its time, and there's so much to explore and do in this game.

While lacking the creativity of 3, this has some phenomenal world-design which features secret levels, secret levels with secrets, and secret castles within secret levels which lead to secret worlds. It's endlessly replayable as a result and constantly rewards good observation.

No 2D platformer has nearly as much depth, design and scope as Super Mario World. The absolute pinnacle of game design for its time, and one of the many brilliant gems in the Mario franchise.

For a flagship title on such an old system, wow was this such a great one. So many worlds, a nice degree of challenge, hidden paths to explore. Even today, this is a really fun title. It's the usual story of Mario trying to rescue Peach, but it's the ride that makes it so great.

This is my first gaming memory. I must've been about five or six. This game is most likely responsible for my love of the medium, my loyalty to Nintendo, and my continued excitement to jump into the umpteenth Mario excursion. It's still the king of the side-scrolling platformers as far as I'm concerned.

I 100%'d this game as it came out at a good time of my life to do stuff like that. It had a tough hill to climb after the masterpiece of SMB3 and does a great job living up to it. The inclusion of Yoshi was a fantastic.

Ok fun . . . Wasn't that great or challenging.

Fantastic, even if it lacks quite the same diversity of settings and powerups as Mario 3. Wonderful music, Yoshi, ghost houses, great castle design in the Koopa Kid stages. And the secret exits! Good stuff.

I didn't like this as much as the original trilogy for the NES. The Yoshi gimmick didn't excite me, and the level design wasn't as clever, I felt, as some of the levels in SMB2 and SMB3. Still, an interesting sidescroller and one of the better entries in the Mario series.

Completely deserves recognition as one of the most iconic games ever made.

Even though I prefer SMB3, there is no denying that World is a bit more exciting, a bit more colorful, a bit more animated, a bit mo.....

It was culture shock at the advancement of options and gameplay. I still remember gathering around with friends to team playthrough.
