Traumatic memories of getting stomped over and over again by friends who actually owned the game.

Pretty much defined my high school years as the standard go-to multiplayer when friends came over. It looks creaky today but I'd still play it without a moment's hesitation.

Don't make the same mistake I made and went back to this 20 years later. But 20 years ago there were many, many, many sleepovers of everyone dying of laughter with gameshark codes making everyone tiny and blowing them up with remote mines so they'd go flying.

I still play through this game on Secret Agent difficulty every year and I never don't enjoy almost every minute of it (almost, because the fog in the statue park and jungle levels can be annoying to navigate). But overall this game still plays super smooth to me, there's this great almost tactile physicality to firing the weapons and getting hit and flinging yourself around corners to hide from guards. The music is great too. Still my favorite Bond game and one of my favorite games.

It's like the exquisitely gonzo N64 controller and this game were made for each other. There was a supernatural fluidity in the way millions of pubescents around the world could synchronize their brains to the on-screen movement and play for hundreds of hours - fuck, even my Dad could play it. But I still stomped his ass with Oddjob every time.

Another college staple and another overrated game. Whomever created 4 player split screen needs to die. I'm extremely biased here, as I hate 90% of first person shooters, but my rating is how I feel personally about the game. Also the N64 controller is pure trash.

This was the only FPS I really, really liked for about a decade and a half. It's ridiculous how much I played this game, and how fun it continued to be. Probably my favorite multiplayer title for the N64, too.

I always thought this game was wildly overrated...but it doesn't help that I was especially terrible at it and really couldn't enjoy just being cannon fodder for all my friends who were much bigger gamers than I ever was.

THE first person shooter. This is the game that defined the genre. While the campaign was a solid experience, the real winner was the insanely popular, insanely fun multiplayer. Sure, playing it now would likely not be a lot of fun compared to other FPS fare, but boy, I could have played this for hours and hours and hours back in the day.

Almost no playability now but thousands of hours of laughing with friends and catching those fuckers screen peeping.

The N64 controller makes this game feel a lot more dated than it really is. The level design, weapon variety, and multiplayer are still very fun to play, but playing it without a mouse & keyboard can make shooting feel overly stiff and unintuitive. For those who thought it aged poorly, I suggest you try playing it with a mouse & keyboard at 60 FPS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=10&v=LSEILSqqFas

I wasn't sure how this opinion would go over on Criticker but having read the other reviews thus far I'm pretty much right in line: Perfect Dark is better and this hasn't aged well. This still has the Bond charm, fun weapons and maps, but the controls suck and only having splitscreen doesn't fly. Its influence is huge but it's only kind of okay now... but anybody who played it back in the day can remember that awesome main menu music.

How to beat screen peeking 101: 1 hit kills, N64 controller, throwing knives only. All 4 of you will end up circle strafing in the biggest open area till one person goes rogue and tries to get a slap kill at which point you have to actually get in a real fight for such a chickenshit move. Good times.

I didn't play this when it was new so it mostly just makes me feel like my hands don't work.

So damn good for the time, but the controls especially have aged poorly. Perfect Dark is better.

Has it aged well? No. If I bring this to a party will everyone my age have the time of their lives? Absolutely. It might just be nostalgia speaking, and by all means Perfect Dark was better in everyway, but what a phenomenal game for the N64.

Really cool at the time, but quite dated now. Props to what it did for multiplayer FPS games down the tracks.

Back in 1997, I would give it 100. It is still a great game, though. The innovative approach to single player missions (additional objectives at higher difficulties) and the plethora of multiplayer settings are great. However, the frame rate, resolution, and controls are serious barriers to enjoyment now. Still... proximity mines in The Temple... and it has an insanely good soundtrack.

Without a doubt Goldeneye is fun. It is probably the high point of movie tie in products and RARE again remade the genre as they saw fit. However it suffers from some funny graphic issues and the control scheme left a little to be desired.

Didn't play it much as I didn't have an N64, but these were fun times playing on a split screen at a friend's place. Klobb 4life.

The greatest console shooter ever made, Goldeneye 007 set the foundation for competitive shooters that eventually became the backbone of modern e-sports. On top of it's brilliant and culture defining multiplayer, it's single player mode is arguably the best console shooter ever made, with some of the best level design standing up even to games 20 years later. Also, a huge pioneer in stealth based gameplay.

This game has aged about as well as that guy at the end of The Last Crusade. Ok, I do understand that this game was a profound statement for the N64 but it never felt as good to me as it does for everyone else.

Excellent game. This rating is based on the easiest mode, me taking my time to complete objectives & not ranking the multiplayer or getting the extra 2 levels in it. The only thing I don't like is protecting Natalia as sometimes she will get killed & the game doesn't tell you how or where to go to for your objectives. Other than that it's amazing. Controls are excellent, you can take your time & I would recommend it to my male Casual friends who have never played a 1st person shooter.
