The epitome of a "classic game" Almost 35 years later and the game is still great. It just proves that you don't need fancy graphics to make a great game...it's all about game play. It doesn't matter how many times you play it, it never gets old.

When this first came out I was amazed at how we got a big leap from the Atari games. This was the first game I have played where there was actually a story and a ending to a game without involving a glitch like pacman where the score would change to letters and such. If you master this game you'll beat this in probably 30 min - 1 hour.

Classic sidescroller. The game that came with the NES. And still really difficult, despite being 30+ years old now. I personally prefer SMB 2 and SMB 3 over this initial entry into the series, but this is a classic that has largely withstood the test of time.

Essential gaming. There was something revolutionary in the way Mario and Luigi responded to the controls that other imitators sorely lacked - it established the appropriate level of in-game gravity for decades. It was strikingly natural. And this little adventure of a tiny plumber eating mushrooms still holds up today.

Nostalgia reigns supreme. It's dated and hokey and clunky and playing it just isn't all that fun now. But for a time this was an amazing achievement and shaped platforms for years to come and launched the legacy of Mario.

A timeless classic that people will still play 100 years into the future. It's a game that's simple to grasp, but hard to master. Has some of the most iconic level design in gaming history coupled with tunes that have implanted itself into popular culture. Despite how extremely basic the game is, it deserves its reputation as one of the greatest platformers ever.

Just a fantastic nostalgia trip. It's not aged as well as some classic Nintendo titles, but it probably deserves a face on the Mount Rushmore of video games.

The only thing dragging this almost perfect remaster is the screen size. It\'s almost impossible to do the challenge stages unless you\'re a witch with foresight.

Purely in controls I think this holds up remarkably. There are issues in the limitations though: the game becomes a little too similar at times and level design is in some ways still being figured out.

This game was great. Even girls played this game. Well, more play now . . more games. This was the first I saw them interested in.

Hard to rate a game like this because- for its time, it was so amazing. The side-scrolling gameplay was smooth, the challenge fun. I'll still pick it up and play it once in a very great while, but it's still aged. It's been improved upon.

The grandfather of all platformers. The mechanics of jumping was never done better before and arguably after either. The thing that holds this back is some very uninspired level-design in the last few worlds.

This was the first video game I ever played (I think) and I still play it once every few years and enjoy it, even though it is brutally difficult. There is something super-weird and charming about it other Mario games never really had. But that could just be nostalgia.

I mean, yeah, even back in the day I didn't think much of it. The sequels are so much better and feature actually well thought out game design.

Super Mario Bros. is an imperfect classic. The level design is on point and extremely difficult at times. Sadly it's a little to easy to rush through when one is aware of all the tricks and Easter eggs.

*The* Video Game, to many, and my first. It's interesting to go back and look at it critically. To the good, the justly famous conveyance continues thru the whole game, showing you how the various elements combine and recombine, and how to beat them. To the bad, the last two worlds have a huge, out-of-nowhere difficulty boost that feels like it's left over from arcades that wanted to suck away your quarters. Overall, it holds up; I could give it to a modern-day kid and I think they'd have fun.

Is Super Mario Bros. the best game ever made for the NES? Many people will debate that question. But there is no doubt in anybody's mind that Mario made Nintendo the success it is today. Without this game, there probably wouldn't be a Nintendo... and that is the reason why it deserves the perfect score it got.

You get groundbreaking games, or you get good games. Here we have one that is both. It's overshadowed by the third game in the series, no doubt, but this one made its genre a perpetually viable mainstay of the home gaming market and had a good time doing so.
