The pinnacle of not just 3D platforming, but of just like MOVEMENT in 3D video games. It's such a joy to jump around in these areas. Add to that impeccable level design which rewards you for exploring everywhere, fantastic set-pieces, and the entertaining as hell capture mechanic, and you've got - somehow! - the new best Mario game ever.

~Completed!~ This is the best Mario game to date. Beautiful music, charming visuals, brilliant gameplay, and an accessibility that rivals Tetris. There is not a person I wouldn't recommend this game to for one reason or another. It has everything. It's as perfect as a game can be. I love it.

Just ok. I wasn't expecting 80s style difficulty, but it's so straight forward that it just feels like you're going through the motions, doing busy work. Could've done with about a third of the moons, to make it feel like they're worth something. Controls and camera angles could be better too.

So repetitive. Like a prolonged version of Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 with even more boring worlds. It also tries desperately to be charming but Mario have never been less charming than this. Don’t even get my started about the annoying cap. A good final act helps but not enough.

Smile inducing to the extreme. Nintendo was also nice enough to throw the player a surprise party with a live band.

Mario Odyssey is exactly what Galaxy wishes it could have been. Perfect controls and outstanding levels. Though the games story is not very long, there are enough hidden collectibles to make it more than it's money's worth.

Basically Mario 64 with better graphics. Gameplay not as good but it's still ok. So basically you find moons in the World to power up your ship. These vary per World. 13 Worlds for the regular gameplay with another World added if you want to 100% this. Story is trash. You can beat this in either regular or Assist mode which give you 6 life heart containers. Which you'll need cuz you'll die a lot in this game. After beating the game you can replay this to 100% your game.

Great game, but I suck at controlling Mario and am not too interested by "collect stuff" games. Oh well.

The controls feel great, in my opinion even better than Galaxy, and maybe even Sunshine. The "stars" have kind of an experimental nature in this one, very similar to what Nintendo did with Breath of the Wild. Just like how that one removed their dungeons in favor of smaller "shrines" this one spreads several moons throughout each level and involves accomplishing a variety of smaller mini-objectives to find them, rather than entering the level repeatedly for a single goal each time.

A damn solid title boasting a daunting amount of content and satisfying platforming. That said the controls can be a bit wonky and there's a bit of overreliance on the hat hop to pull off advanced maneuvers, but that doesn't mean doing these challenges are braindead easy or unrewarding. The level to level challenges aren't immensely interesting but there's so much variety and ways to approach these levels that it's still entertaining. Odyssey is a bit overrated but a damn good time regardless.

Remarkable and groundbreaking in the same ways Galaxy and 64 were before it. How is the Mario dev team this good?

Characterful, charming, enjoyable and comfortable. My interest began to wane partway through the post-game, however.

Mario at his finest in the 3D world. Everything feels polished about this game.

Nintendo knows games. They just know games. Odyssey is fun for the sake of having fun. The imagination and designs and challenges are all centered on that belief of “is it fun?” and each one must answer a resounding “Yes” before Nintendo stamps its approval on it. Odyssey is kind of like a blissful drug: it’s a good time for as long as it lasts, and really, how much more perfection can we ask from a video game?

yes. I think the ending hunt gets a little sluggish and the final fights are hard to enjoy, but until then it's perfect.

Wonderful to play through the initial story mode, with the New Donk City setpiece with Pauline singing the game's theme song probably being the highlight. I became quickly frustrated with trying to go back and collect more Moons after beating Bowser though, I mean there's what 800 of those damn things? Too many! Great level design though.

Nintendo finally puts out a game that competes with Super Mario 64. Extremely tight gameplay, and the introduction of Cappy ends up being one of the most enjoyable mechanics to a Mario game ever made. Levels are beautiful, and the music is top-notch. Paulina's performance in New Donk City alone makes this game an easy best of all time.

A joy to play because of how perfect the controls are, and the worlds are fun to be in. However, I did feel that the really excessive amount of moons and repetition of types of moons ended up wearing me down and burning me out really early in the postgame. I think Odyssey with a ton of moons cut and fewer, but more unique moons would be the perfect game.

Super Mario Odyssey is an awesome return for 3D Mario. Gorgeous graphics, amazing level design, and too much in-game content to keep track of. While playing through the game's story is fairly quick and easy experience, there is plenty of post-game content to keep the fun going and many tough-as-nails challenges to complete. Hunting down moons, while there are many, is rewarding and rarely feels like a chore.

Playing this all the way through was one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had, almost as good as a 10-year-old me keeping up a 14-year-old Cypriot guy all night playing Super Mario 64 on the N64 and making him late for school the next morning lmao

It's probably a 10 out of 10 but my scale would indicate that as a "favourite" of mine and it's not. It's still fucking awesome, having so much stuff you can do, and they showcase the Nintendo creativity here.

the best Mario platformer ever made, and one that feels, appropriately, like a culmination of the series. the New Donk City setpiece is the most fun I've ever had playing a Mario game that didn't have the words "Paper" or "& Luigi" in the title. it's the killer app for the Switch, and it would be the killer app for any system from now until the end of time.
