Super Mario Odyssey

The pinnacle of not just 3D platforming, but of just like MOVEMENT in 3D video games. It's such a joy to jump around in these areas. Add to that impeccable level design which rewards you for exploring everywhere, fantastic set-pieces, and the entertaining as hell capture mechanic, and you've got - somehow! - the new best Mario game ever.

It was fun for a while but then boring and frustrating, and didn't have much to offer. I am more of an adventure-gamer anyway so it is possible it's just not my kind of game.

I just can't get into 3D Mario past Mario 64.

Playing this for the first time brought me the same feeling I had playing Super Mario 64 for the first time in '96. There's just so much joy and wonder from simply running and jumping around a 3D environment, it's incredible. My only 2 nitpicks are that there's too probably many moons, almost diluting the thrill of finding them sometimes, and that some kingdoms are better than others (Metro, Wooded, & Sand being the stand-outs, while Snow & Lake could have been cut without losing anything).

atmospheric, and a good intro to Mario, but feels strangely punishing. Handed it to a young kid and they also complained it was frustrating.

Just ok. I wasn't expecting 80s style difficulty, but it's so straight forward that it just feels like you're going through the motions, doing busy work. Could've done with about a third of the moons, to make it feel like they're worth something. Controls and camera angles could be better too.

You can play as a Chain Chomp. Im sold.
